AHMEDABAD, MAR 15
In a major boost to India’s power sector expansion, Adani Power has received a Letter of Award (LoA) from Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) for the long-term supply of 1,600 MW of electricity from one of its upcoming ultra-supercritical thermal power projects.
The contract follows a highly competitive bidding process, in which Adani Power emerged as the lowest-tariff bidder, quoting a combined tariff of ₹5.30 per kWh. The proposed 25-year Power Supply Agreement (PSA) will begin delivering electricity from FY 2030–31.
Major Boost to Thermal Capacity Expansion
The award marks another milestone for the company as India accelerates investments in reliable baseload thermal capacity to meet rapidly rising electricity demand.
Adani Power has been actively securing long-term supply agreements as part of the country’s broader goal to add around 100 GW of thermal power capacity by 2032.
During FY 2025–26, the company has already won five long-term power supply bids totaling 10,400 MW, reinforcing its position as a key private-sector contributor to India’s energy infrastructure.
CEO’s Key Remarks
S.B. Khyalia, CEO of Adani Power, emphasised the importance of dependable capacity addition to sustain India’s economic growth.
“With India’s power demand continuing to rise steadily, long-term and reliable capacity addition is critical to ensure energy security.”
“This LoA from MSEDCL reflects the competitiveness of Adani Power’s cost structure, our ability to deliver dependable baseload power and our commitment to supporting India’s growing electricity needs through long-term partnerships.”
“As India’s leading private power producer, we are keen to support Maharashtra’s and the nation’s ambitious development goals with reliable and affordable electricity supply.”
Strong Pipeline and Revenue Visibility
With this latest contract, Adani Power has now secured long-term PSAs for 13.3 GW out of its 23.8 GW capacity under development, moving closer to its strategic goal of tying up almost its entire pipeline under long-term contracts.
Key highlights include:
- Over 95% of its 18.15 GW operating capacity tied up under medium- to long-term PSAs
- More than 55% of upcoming 23.8 GW capacity secured under 25-year agreements
- Strong visibility of long-term volumes and stable revenues
The MSEDCL tender also includes pre-allocated coal linkage, ensuring fuel security and cost-effective power generation over the project lifecycle.
₹2-Lakh-Crore Expansion Drive
Adani Power is currently executing India’s largest private-sector thermal power expansion programme, aiming to increase installed capacity from 18.15 GW to 41.87 GW by FY 2031–32 with investments of around ₹2 lakh crore.
The expansion is designed to meet India’s rapidly growing electricity demand, driven by:
- economic growth
- urbanisation
- industrial expansion
- rising household electrification
During the project phase, these developments are expected to generate tens of thousands of jobs and stimulate demand across multiple industries including engineering, construction, logistics and equipment manufacturing.
