AHMEDABAD, MAR 25

In a significant political and legislative milestone, Amit Shah on Tuesday congratulated Bhupendra Patel and Gujarat legislators for successfully passing the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) Bill, marking the state’s decisive step toward legal uniformity.

The development positions Gujarat as the second state after Uttarakhand to formally advance a uniform civil framework, underscoring a broader national push for legal consistency across communities.

‘Commitment Since Inception’: Shah

In a statement, Shah reiterated that the idea of a uniform law for all citizens has been central to the party’s ideological framework.

“Ensuring a uniform law for every citizen in the country has been a commitment of our party since its inception,” he said.

Highlighting the Centre-state synergy, he added:

“Under the leadership of Narendra Modi, our party’s state governments are continuously moving forward in this direction.”

Gujarat Joins Reform Vanguard

Praising Gujarat’s legislative resolve, Shah termed the passage of the Bill as a “historic task” accomplished by the state leadership.

“I am pleased that after Uttarakhand, Gujarat has also demonstrated its commitment by accomplishing the historic task of passing the Uniform Civil Code Bill,” he said.

He extended congratulations to Chief Minister Patel and all supporting legislators for their role in enabling the reform.

‘Equal Laws, Not Appeasement’

Framing the move as a governance priority, Shah emphasised the principle of equality before law:

“The country should be governed not on the basis of appeasement, but through equal laws for all citizens—this is both our priority and our commitment.”
