Positioning himself as a candidate rooted in “delivery, not declarations,” AAP’s Gomtipur Ward nominee Amjad Khan on Wednesday outlined a mix of past achievements and forward-looking commitments, seeking to anchor his campaign on tangible civic transformation.

Addressing the media at the party office in Gomtipur, Khan, a former corporator, highlighted what he described as “historic interventions” in education, healthcare, and urban infrastructure during his earlier tenure, while promising an accelerated development roadmap if elected in 2026.

Education First: ‘Model School Before It Became a Model’

Khan underscored his role in rebuilding a dilapidated school in Sundarnagar into a fully-equipped campus with a playground and kindergarten.

“The kind of government schools now showcased as the ‘Delhi Model’, I had already implemented such a model in Gomtipur years ago,” he said.

He announced a phased expansion plan: “After 2026, I will ensure that classes from 9th to 12th are introduced step-by-step, one grade every year.”

Healthcare Leap: Reviving Shardaben Hospital

Calling it a “turning point” for the ward, Khan detailed how Shardaben Hospital was revived from a sealed facility into a multi-specialty civic hospital.

“From surgical wards to pediatric care, from CT scan to MRI — we ensured people didn’t have to run to Civil or VS Hospital anymore,” he said.

He also flagged improvements in diagnostic timelines: “Earlier, a sonography meant waiting 15–20 days. We worked to change that reality for patients.”

Civic Infrastructure: From Party Plot to Flood-Free Cemetery

Highlighting localized yet impactful interventions, Khan cited the construction of a party plot to prevent road encroachments during social functions.

He also recalled addressing chronic waterlogging at a cemetery: “Funeral biers floating onto roads was unacceptable. I introduced a perforated wall system — a permanent solution that still works.”

Core Amenities: ‘Back to Basics, Done Right’

Khan admitted that several civic services deteriorated after his tenure but pledged a comprehensive overhaul.

“Water, drainage, street lights — these are not luxuries but basic rights. I will ensure permanent solutions across Gomtipur,” he asserted.

He added that the ward would be brought on par with developed localities: “Facilities like those in Naranpura, Bopal, Ambli, or nearby Ramol and Vastral will be replicated here.”

Inclusive Urban Design: For Children and the Elderly

Emphasizing quality of life, Khan proposed dedicated spaces for all age groups.

“Playgrounds for children and walking streets with gazebos for the elderly will be created — because every taxpayer deserves a dignified living environment,” he said.

Closing Pitch: ‘Transforming Gomtipur Together’

Framing the election as a mandate for continuity and expansion of development, Khan concluded:

“Make me your Corporator in 2026, and I will change the face of Gomtipur.”
