In a stirring blend of history, technology and patriotism, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath jointly inaugurated a state-of-the-art Laser, Light and Sound Show at the Smritika War Memorial on April 11, 2026.
The 30-minute Hindi multimedia presentation vividly narrates the Indian Army’s history, operational achievements, and nation-building contributions using cutting-edge projection, sound, and lighting technologies. The show will be held daily in the evening and will soon be opened to the public.
From 1947 to Kargil: Battles that Shaped a Nation
The immersive show provides a sweeping overview of India’s major wars, highlighting key operational aspects of the 1947–48, 1962, 1965, and 1971 conflicts, along with distinguished contributions during Operation Meghdoot and Operation Vijay.
The pivotal role of the Central Command across multiple operations is prominently showcased, offering audiences a deeper understanding of India’s military journey.
Honouring Heroes & Awadh’s Martial Legacy
A major highlight is the tribute to Param Vir Chakra awardees from the Awadh region, celebrating their unmatched bravery and sacrifice.
The narrative is interwoven with a concise yet powerful account of Awadh’s rich martial traditions and its enduring contribution to national defence.
Modern Military & Aatmanirbhar Push in Focus
The show also captures the Indian Army’s ongoing modernisation and transformation in response to evolving threats and changing warfare dynamics.
Special emphasis is placed on advancements in the Indian defence industry, including their first showcased use during Operation Sindoor, and the emergence of Uttar Pradesh as a hub of Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiatives, particularly through its defence corridor.
A Memorial Reimagined with Cutting-Edge Infrastructure
To host the show, the Smritika War Memorial has undergone a comprehensive upgrade. This includes installation of advanced projectors and sound systems, creation of murals depicting next-generation military equipment and war trophies, and construction of a modern amphitheatre.
Three dedicated mural walls are also being developed, serving both as static displays of military heritage and dynamic canvases for the laser show.
The initiative has been executed by Indian Army Central Command in partnership with the Uttar Pradesh government and the Uttar Pradesh State Tourism Development Corporation.
A Living Tribute Since 1994
Established in 1994 under the aegis of Central Command, the Smritika War Memorial stands as a timeless tribute to the valour, sacrifice, and indomitable spirit of India’s armed forces, fostering national pride and awareness—especially among the youth.
Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief Central Command Lt Gen Anindya Sengupta, along with senior Army and state officials, were present on the occasion.
