NEW DELHI, APR 12

The Indian Navy is set to host the first edition of its biannual Commanders’ Conference 2026 at Nausena Bhawan, New Delhi from 14–16 April, marking a high-level strategic review of India’s maritime posture amid fast-evolving regional security challenges.

The apex conference will bring together top naval leadership to assess operational readiness, capability development, and alignment with national security objectives in an increasingly complex Indo-Pacific theatre.

Senior dignitaries including Chief of Defence Staff Anil Chauhan and Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan are expected to address the gathering, alongside detailed deliberations led by Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Dinesh K. Tripathi.

The official statement highlighted the strategic urgency of the meeting, noting heightened naval deployments amid energy security concerns and regional instability.

“The conference also bears prominent significance in reaffirming the Navy’s operational doctrine, inter-services coordination and technology driven response mechanisms post ‘Op Sindoor’.”

Discussions will span blue-water capability enhancement, AI integration, unmanned systems, operational logistics, human resource management, and sustainable maintenance practices, reinforcing India’s push toward a tech-driven maritime force.

Officials said the forum also reinforces India’s vision of MAHASAGAR (Mutual and Holistic Advancement for Security and Growth Across Regions) and positions the Navy as a “Preferred Security Partner” in the Indian Ocean Region and Indo-Pacific.

INDIA–KENYA NAVAL DIPLOMACY DEEPENS IN MOMBASA

In a parallel diplomatic engagement, frontline guided missile frigate INS Trikand of the Indian Navy concluded its port call at Mombasa, Kenya, on 10 April 2026, strengthening maritime cooperation with the Kenya Navy.

During the visit, Vice Admiral Krishna Swaminathan, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief (Western Naval Command), oversaw key engagements including a formal transfer of INSAS rifles and ammunition to Maj Gen Paul Owuor Otieno of the Kenya Navy.

The visit featured VBSS drills, cross-deck exchanges, training on small arms handling, yoga sessions, sports fixtures, and community engagement programmes, reinforcing people-to-people naval connect.

A cultural evening onboard further highlighted maritime camaraderie between the two navies, while the command-level interaction between Capt. Sachin Kulkarni and Kenyan naval leadership deepened operational understanding.

The Navy noted that the visit aligns with India’s broader MAHASAGAR vision, strengthening stability, cooperation, and shared maritime security architecture across the Indian Ocean Region.
