Ahead of the crucial Assembly proceedings, senior MLA M.V. Karuppaiah took oath as the Pro-tem Speaker at a ceremony held at the Raj Bhavan in Chennai on Sunday.
Tamil Nadu Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar administered the oath to the Cholavandhan MLA, who will oversee the initial proceedings of the House and administer the oath of office to all newly elected legislators.

Vijay’s Swearing-In Signals Political Earthquake
Earlier in the day, Vijay was sworn in as the 13th Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu at a grand and emotionally charged ceremony attended by political leaders, film personalities, alliance partners, party cadres and thousands of supporters.
Governor Arlekar administered the oath of office and secrecy to Vijay, who later reached the Tamil Nadu Secretariat to formally assume charge.
The actor-turned-politician’s elevation to the top post marks one of the most dramatic political transformations in Tamil Nadu’s history, with TVK emerging as the single-largest party in the recently concluded Assembly elections.
TVK-Led Combine Crosses Majority Mark
The TVK secured 108 seats in the 234-member Assembly, falling short of a simple majority on its own but comfortably crossing the magic figure of 118 with support from alliance and outside parties.
The new ruling combine enjoys the backing of the Indian National Congress, Communist Party of India, Communist Party of India (Marxist), Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi and Indian Union Muslim League.
Together, the coalition commands the support of 120 MLAs, ensuring a working majority in the Assembly.
Nine Ministers were also sworn in alongside Vijay as members of the new Council of Ministers.
All Eyes on Vijay Government’s Legislative Agenda
The Assembly session beginning Monday is expected to provide the first glimpse into the legislative priorities and governance roadmap of the Vijay-led administration.
Political observers believe the inaugural session could set the tone for the government’s proposed welfare schemes, administrative reforms and its promised transparency-driven governance model.
With unprecedented public curiosity surrounding the TVK government’s first steps inside the Assembly, Fort St. George is expected to become the focal point of Tamil Nadu’s rapidly shifting political landscape.
