In a major push to transform rural creativity into a national technology movement, Gujarat Council on Science and Technology and National Innovation Foundation launched a high-impact national workshop at Gujarat Science City aimed at accelerating India’s grassroots innovation ecosystem.

The two-day workshop, titled “National Workshop on Grassroots Innovation Pathway: From Local Resilience to National Advancements,” has brought together nearly 200 delegates including policymakers, scientists, innovators, researchers, entrepreneurs and investors from across the country.

Rural Innovation Meets National Technology Mission

Addressing the inaugural session, Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh said India’s innovation landscape has undergone a dramatic transformation under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, with Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities emerging as vibrant startup hubs.

He emphasized that the next phase of India’s technological rise would depend on connecting grassroots innovators with advanced technologies, institutional mentorship, startup ecosystems and industry partnerships.

“India’s villages and local communities are becoming innovation laboratories. Grassroots solutions have the potential to address global challenges when supported by technology and policy,” he noted.

Gujarat Showcases Vision for Viksit Bharat 2047

Gujarat Science and Technology Minister Arjunbhai Modhwadia highlighted the importance of empowering artisans, farmers and local inventors by blending traditional knowledge systems with modern design, digital tools and market access.

He noted that the National Education Policy (NEP) is encouraging scientific creativity and entrepreneurial thinking among young Indians, adding that grassroots innovations would become a critical pillar in realizing the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047.

The workshop is expected to create stronger institutional mechanisms for identifying, validating and scaling indigenous innovations that can contribute to sustainable economic growth.

Focus Areas: Agriculture, Climate and Rural Technologies

The national workshop will host thematic sessions on:

  • Sustainable agriculture technologies
  • Water conservation innovations
  • Rural healthcare solutions
  • Climate-resilient technologies
  • Livelihood enhancement models
  • Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) protection
  • Innovation incubation and commercialization

Experts believe the initiative could help bridge the gap between local problem-solving and national development strategies, especially in areas vulnerable to climate and economic challenges.

Top Scientists and Policy Leaders Join Deliberations

The inaugural event witnessed keynote addresses from distinguished science and policy leaders including V. K. Saraswat, Ashutosh Sharma and Anil Sahasrabudhe.

Dr. Narottam Sahu welcomed delegates and dignitaries, while Prof. Vivek Kumar Singh delivered the vote of thanks.

A National Platform for Inclusive Innovation

The workshop is being viewed as a significant step toward democratizing innovation in India by ensuring that rural inventors and community innovators gain access to scientific validation, financial support, mentorship and national-level recognition.

With India aiming to become a global innovation powerhouse, experts at the event stressed that the country’s next big technological breakthroughs may well emerge from its villages and grassroots communities.
