Demonstrating how industry-academia collaboration can reshape the future of manufacturing leadership, ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel India (AM/NS India) has celebrated the graduation of the inaugural batch of its MBA in Manufacturing Management, delivered in partnership with BITS Pilani under a pioneering work-integrated learning model.
- First MBA batch in Manufacturing Management graduates from AM/NS India’s work-integrated learning programme with BITS Pilani
- Milestone reinforces the steel major’s commitment to creating a future-ready leadership pipeline through continuous capability building
- Employees transform classroom learning into measurable operational improvements through real-world business projects
- Specialised curriculum blends strategic management, digital transformation, sustainable manufacturing and data-driven decision-making
- Industry-academia partnership showcases how lifelong learning can power innovation, productivity and India’s manufacturing ambitions
The milestone builds on the success of the company’s B.Tech programme in Process Engineering and underscores AM/NS India’s long-term commitment to capability building by equipping employees with advanced managerial and technological expertise while they continue contributing to business operations.
The convocation ceremony was held at AM/NS India’s flagship Hazira plant and was graced by Shri Anupam Singh Gahlaut, IPS, Commissioner of Police, Surat, as the Chief Guest.
As one of the early adopters of Work Integrated Learning Programmes (WILP) in India’s steel sector, AM/NS India has consistently leveraged academic partnerships to build a future-ready workforce. Following the successful expansion of its engineering programme, the company introduced the MBA in Manufacturing Management to strengthen leadership capabilities across critical functions. Multiple batches are currently underway, reflecting strong employee participation and the organisation’s enduring culture of continuous learning.
Unlike conventional MBA programmes, the curriculum developed by BITS Pilani for AM/NS India has been specifically tailored to address the evolving complexities of modern steel manufacturing. The programme integrates core management disciplines—including supply chain optimisation, strategic finance and organisational leadership—with specialised modules on digital transformation, sustainable manufacturing practices and data-driven decision-making.
Its flexible multi-modal learning framework enabled employees to pursue higher education without stepping away from their professional responsibilities, seamlessly applying classroom knowledge to real-time industrial challenges and reinforcing a culture where learning and performance evolve together.
Graduates from key divisions, including Steelmaking and Digital Technology, have already demonstrated tangible business impact through capstone projects that addressed operational bottlenecks, enhanced efficiencies and contributed to continuous improvement initiatives across the organisation.
Congratulating the graduating professionals, Shri Anupam Singh Gahlaut, IPS, Commissioner of Police, Surat, said:
“I congratulate the graduating professionals on this significant achievement. Balancing demanding professional responsibilities with academic excellence reflects strong discipline and commitment. I encourage all graduates to continue striving for excellence, contribute meaningfully to their organisations and society, and play their part in building a Viksit Bharat by 2047.”
Highlighting the company’s people-centric growth strategy, Ashutosh Telang, Director & VP – HR & Administration, ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel India (AM/NS India), said:
“At AM/NS India, continuous learning is central to how we build capability and drive performance. This milestone reflects our commitment to developing leaders who can seamlessly integrate business insight with technological and operational excellence. Through our collaboration with BITS Pilani, we are strengthening a future-ready talent pipeline that will accelerate innovation and contribute significantly to our journey of building a world-class steel enterprise in India.”
Emphasising the significance of industry-aligned education, Prof. S. Gurunarayanan, Dy. Director, Off-Campus Programmes & Industry Engagement, BITS Pilani, said:
“At BITS Pilani WILP, our academic philosophy is rooted in co-creating specialized curricula that address the evolving intellectual demands of core industries. Our partnership with AM/NS India exemplifies the true spirit of work-integrated learning merging academic excellence with industry-leading practices. In today’s dynamic industrial landscape, leadership requires more than traditional management skills; it demands a deep understanding of technological evolution and sustainable growth. These MBA graduates will undoubtedly play a pivotal role in driving AM/NS India’s strategic and operational success.”
The successful graduation of the first MBA cohort marks more than an academic milestone—it signals a growing shift in Indian manufacturing towards integrated learning ecosystems where education, innovation and workplace excellence converge to create leaders capable of steering the industry’s next phase of transformation.
