In New Delhi, Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports Mansukh Mandaviya joined hands with actor and fitness advocate Akshay Kumar to lead a large-scale celebration at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, where nearly 3,000 participants gathered for a mass yoga session organised by the Fit India Movement under the aegis of the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports.

Simultaneously, yoga sessions were conducted at Sports Authority of India centres, National Centres of Excellence, SAI Training Centres, Khelo India institutions and sports establishments across the country, drawing participation from lakhs of citizens and reinforcing yoga’s growing role in India’s preventive healthcare ecosystem.

Addressing the gathering, Mansukh Mandaviya underscored the importance of integrating fitness into daily life.

“Yoga and fitness must become part of everyday life if India is to realise its vision of becoming a developed nation,” he said.

The Minister highlighted the transformative role of the Fit India Movement in promoting behavioural change and preventive healthcare through mass participation and community engagement.

During his interaction with participants, Mandaviya reiterated the importance of maintaining good health through sustainable lifestyle choices.

“Good health and fitness practices such as yoga and cycling must become an integral part of our daily routine,” he emphasised.

Akshay Kumar, widely regarded as one of India’s leading fitness ambassadors, spoke about yoga’s transformative impact on both body and mind.

“Yoga plays a vital role in promoting physical and mental well-being, and fitness should become a regular habit for every individual,” he said.

The programme commenced with cultural performances, followed by a live telecast of the Prime Minister’s address from Kolkata and a Common Yoga Protocol session led by renowned yoga and wellness instructor Anshuka Parwani, who was felicitated as a Fit India Icon.

Akshay Kumar was also honoured as a Fit India Icon for his contribution to promoting fitness and healthy living among millions of Indians.

The occasion further celebrated India’s growing prominence in Yogasana as athletes who excelled at the recently concluded World Yogasana Sport Championship in Ahmedabad were felicitated as Fit India Champions.

Senior officials, including Secretary (Sports) Hari Ranjan Rao, Secretary (Youth Affairs) Pallavi Jain Govil, Sports Authority of India officials and members of the sporting fraternity, attended the event.

Following the formal programme, participants engaged in yoga-based wellness activities, expert counselling sessions and an impressive Mallakhamb demonstration that showcased India’s rich indigenous fitness traditions.
