CHENNAI, JULY 1

In a shining example of how the spirit of giving can transform lives, the Rotary Club of Adyar, in partnership with Fourrts India Laboratories Pvt. Ltd., has donated a ₹60-lakh Mobile Oral Cancer Care Bus to Sri Ramachandra Dental College and Hospital, taking advanced cancer screening and preventive healthcare directly to the doorsteps of vulnerable communities.

  • Adyar and Fourrts India Laboratories join hands to gift Sri Ramachandra Dental College & Hospital a state-of-the-art Mobile Oral Cancer Care Bus
  • Advanced VELscope imaging, microscopic examination and community-based screening to accelerate early detection of oral cancer and potentially malignant disorders
  • Initiative targets underserved and high-risk communities with awareness, tobacco cessation, doorstep diagnosis and timely referrals for comprehensive treatment
  • Healthcare leaders hail the project as a powerful example of how philanthropy, technology and medical expertise can save lives through early intervention

The state-of-the-art mobile unit was inaugurated by V.R. Venkataachalam, Chancellor, Sri Ramachandra Institute of Higher Education and Research, in the presence of Dr. S.V. Veeramani, Chairman & Managing Director, Fourrts India Laboratories, and D. Devendran, District Governor, Rotary Club of Adyar.

Designed to bridge the gap between specialised healthcare and underserved populations, the Mobile Oral Cancer Care Bus will significantly strengthen early detection, screening and awareness programmes for oral cancer—one of India’s most prevalent and preventable cancers.

Equipped with the advanced VELscope oral fluorescence imaging device and facilities for microscopic examination, the mobile clinic will help doctors identify suspicious oral lesions at an early stage, when treatment outcomes are significantly better.

Individuals found with suspected Oral Potentially Malignant Disorders (OPMDs) or oral cancer during community screening camps will undergo brush biopsy before being referred to Sri Ramachandra Dental College & Hospital for comprehensive diagnosis, multidisciplinary treatment and long-term follow-up.

The initiative is expected to substantially expand the institution’s outreach through regular screening camps, oral health awareness drives and tobacco cessation programmes, particularly in high-risk and underserved communities.

By combining advanced diagnostic technology with doorstep healthcare delivery, the programme aims to promote early diagnosis, ensure timely medical intervention and ultimately reduce the burden of oral cancer.

The initiative reflects a shared commitment by Rotary, industry and the medical fraternity to make preventive healthcare more accessible while reinforcing the life-saving message that early detection saves lives.

Among those present on the occasion were Dr. Uma Sekar, Vice Chancellor, Dr. S. Senthilkumar, Registrar, Dr. K. Balaji Singh, Dean, Medical College, Dr. M.S. Muthu, Dean, Dental College & Hospital, Dr. H. Thamizhchelvan, Professor, Oral Pathology, along with faculty members from the Dental College and Hospital.
