R MANICKAVASAGAM

AHMEDABAD, JULY 4

Ahmedabad is poised to witness a transformational leap in women’s healthcare with EVA Women’s Hospital becoming one of the very few independently owned single-specialty hospitals in India to introduce the globally acclaimed DA VINCI XI Robotic-Assisted Surgical System, setting a new benchmark in advanced gynaecological and gynaec-oncology care.

The state-of-the-art robotic platform will be officially inaugurated on Sunday, marking a watershed moment for Gujarat’s healthcare ecosystem and reaffirming the city’s growing stature as a destination for cutting-edge medical technology.

The installation of one of the world’s most advanced robotic-assisted surgical platforms is expected to significantly enhance treatment outcomes for women suffering from complex gynaecological disorders, deep infiltrating endometriosis and cancers of the cervix, uterus and ovaries through highly precise, minimally invasive procedures.

Designed to augment the surgeon’s capabilities rather than replace them, the DA VINCI XI Surgical System integrates high-definition three-dimensional visualisation, wristed robotic instruments and exceptional dexterity, enabling surgeons to operate with remarkable precision even in anatomically challenging pelvic regions.

The technology has the potential to substantially reduce blood loss, post-operative pain, wound-related complications and hospital stay while enabling faster recovery, particularly in complex cases such as obese women with endometrial cancer, where conventional surgery often presents greater challenges.

The robotic programme will be spearheaded by Dr. Dipak Limbachiya, M.D., D.G.O., Laparoscopy & Robotic Surgeon, Advanced Gynaecological and Gynaec Oncology Surgeon, and Founder Director of EVA Women’s Hospital, widely respected as ‘Lapguru’ for his pioneering work in minimally invasive gynaecological surgery.

Announcing the initiative, Dr. Dipak Limbachiya said, “Every woman deserves access to the safest and most advanced surgical care available. Behind every procedure is a daughter, a mother, a wife or a professional eager to regain her health and return to life with confidence. Our decision to introduce the DA VINCI XI Surgical System is rooted in that belief. As India’s healthcare landscape continues to embrace advanced robotic-assisted surgery, we are proud to bring this global innovation to women in Gujarat through compassionate, patient-centric care.”

Elaborating on the clinical advantages of robotic-assisted surgery, he said, “The DA VINCI XI represents a paradigm shift in complex gynaecological and gynaec-oncology surgery. Compared with conventional laparoscopy and open surgery, robotic technology offers unmatched three-dimensional visualisation, superior dexterity and tremor-free precision, allowing meticulous nerve-sparing surgery even in highly complex pelvic procedures. These advantages translate into significantly lower blood loss, reduced post-operative pain, fewer wound-related complications, shorter hospital stay, faster recovery and an earlier return to normal life. In difficult surgeries involving deep infiltrating endometriosis, cervical cancer, ovarian cancer or endometrial cancer, the precision of robotics can substantially improve surgical quality while preserving vital structures wherever clinically feasible.”

Addressing concerns over affordability, Dr. Limbachiya said, “Robotic surgery is often perceived as an exclusive technology, but our endeavour is to make it accessible to as many women as possible. While robotic procedures naturally involve higher technology costs and currently neither insurance companies nor government health schemes cover these surgeries, EVA Women’s Hospital is committed to rational pricing and counselling every patient on the most appropriate treatment option. Our focus is not on promoting robotics indiscriminately but on offering it wherever it provides genuine clinical benefit and long-term value to the patient.”

On Gujarat’s emergence as a healthcare destination, he observed, “Gujarat has rapidly established itself as one of western India’s most trusted healthcare hubs. The introduction of the DA VINCI XI further strengthens that reputation by bringing world-class robotic gynaecological surgery closer to patients. We expect women not only from Gujarat but also from neighbouring states and overseas to increasingly choose Ahmedabad for advanced treatment supported by international technology, experienced specialists and compassionate care.”

Highlighting the role of robotics in cancer care, Dr. Limbachiya said, “Cervical, ovarian and endometrial cancers remain major health challenges for Indian women. Robotic-assisted surgery enables greater precision in tumour removal while minimising surgical trauma, thereby improving recovery and facilitating earlier commencement of adjuvant therapies whenever required. However, no technology can replace timely diagnosis. My message to every woman is simple—never ignore abnormal symptoms, undergo regular health check-ups and seek expert medical advice without delay. Early diagnosis continues to be the most powerful weapon against gynaecological cancers.”

Sharing the hospital’s long-term vision, he added, “Introducing robotics is not merely about installing an advanced machine; it requires continuous investment in surgeon training, specialised nursing teams, anaesthesia protocols, operating room integration and uncompromising patient safety standards. EVA Women’s Hospital has built a multidisciplinary ecosystem dedicated to robotic-assisted women’s healthcare. Over the next five years, our vision is to make robotic surgery an integral part of comprehensive gynaecological care, expand clinical expertise through continuous training and research, and establish Ahmedabad among India’s leading centres for robotic gynaecology and gynaec-oncology.”

Medical experts note that robotic-assisted surgery is increasingly becoming the preferred option worldwide for selected complex pelvic procedures because of its enhanced precision, improved ergonomics for surgeons and superior clinical outcomes in carefully chosen patients.

The inauguration of the DA VINCI XI Surgical System marks another defining milestone in EVA Women’s Hospital’s journey of clinical excellence, reflecting its commitment to combining globally proven technology with compassionate patient care while redefining the future of women’s healthcare in Gujarat and beyond.
