‘Youth’s aspirations are as boundless as space’: PM Modi gives India’s STEM generation wings to dream, innovate and lead

"The sky is not the limit—it is only the launch pad." Prime Minister Narendra Modi addresses the media before the commencement of the Monsoon Session of Parliament in New Delhi on Monday, urging lawmakers to match the momentum of India's young scientists, engineers and entrepreneurs whose innovations—from private space missions and semiconductors to green hydrogen technologies—are propelling the nation towards Viksit Bharat. NEW DELHI, JULY 20

India’s future will not merely be written in the corridors of Parliament—it will be engineered in laboratories, designed in start-up garages, coded in innovation hubs and launched into space by its young dreamers. Striking an inspirational chord at the opening of the Monsoon Session of Parliament on Monday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi declared that the aspirations and capabilities of India’s youth are “as boundless as space itself,” urging Parliament to match the energy of a nation racing ahead in science, technology, engineering and innovation.

Welcoming Members of Parliament, the Prime Minister likened the arrival of the monsoon to the commencement of Parliament’s Monsoon Session.

“Be it the monsoon or the Monsoon Session, when both are proactive, they become highly productive. And when both are productive, they contribute to the well-being of the nation and of all living beings.”

Expressing confidence that the Session would witness meaningful discussions and constructive participation, he said Parliament should channel the optimism generated by India’s recent scientific, technological and economic achievements.

Highlighting a series of milestones achieved over the past month, the Prime Minister said the country had witnessed moments that filled every Indian with pride—from space exploration to advanced manufacturing and green energy.

Recalling that an Indian astronaut had reached the International Space Station before last year’s Monsoon Session, he noted that this year, Hyderabad-based Skyroot Aerospace scripted history through the successful launch of Vikram-1 under Mission Aagaman, making India one of the few nations where a private enterprise has demonstrated indigenous orbital launch capability.

Showering praise on the young innovators behind the mission, he said: “The average age of the team working at Skyroot is just 28 years. These youngsters have achieved this remarkable feat. I am not talking about a 56-year-old young man; I am talking about a team whose average age is only 28 years. They have carried India’s flag to new heights in space.”

Calling the achievement far more than a technological success, the Prime Minister described it as a defining message for the nation.

“This is not a coincidence; it is a powerful message that the capabilities and aspirations of India’s youth are as limitless as space itself. There can be no greater inspiration for our nation.”

He attributed these accomplishments to what he described as the country’s “Reform Express,” saying bold policy reforms had created an ecosystem where young entrepreneurs, scientists and innovators could pursue ambitious ideas with confidence.

The Prime Minister also highlighted several landmark infrastructure and technology initiatives undertaken in recent weeks, including the dedication of a major oil refinery in Rajasthan, inauguration of India’s third semiconductor manufacturing plant, and launch of the country’s green hydrogen-powered train, which he said features the world’s longest train with the most powerful hydrogen-powered engine.

Describing these achievements as symbols of India’s technological resurgence, he remarked: “This is the outcome of the dedication of India’s scientists, engineers, innovators, entrepreneurs and workers, all working with a mission for the nation.”

Referring to geopolitical uncertainties and the continuing conflict in West Asia, the Prime Minister observed that disruptions in global energy supplies had posed serious challenges for countries dependent on imports. Despite these headwinds, he said, India continued to register 7.7 per cent economic growth, emerging as the world’s fastest-growing major economy.

As Parliament commenced its Monsoon Session, the Prime Minister urged Members across party lines to rise above disruptions and contribute through informed, fact-based discussions.

“The country has picked up speed, and Parliament’s spirit can infuse new energy into this momentum.”

Appealing for healthy democratic debate, he said experienced parliamentarians possessed invaluable knowledge that should guide national policymaking.

“Where facts and logic prevail, there is no room for disruption. Strong arguments and strong facts allow voices to be raised calmly yet powerfully.”

Expressing hope that every viewpoint would receive respect, he called upon Members to actively participate in debates and help realise the aspirations of a young, confident and ambitious India.

Inviting all MPs to make the Session meaningful, he concluded by reiterating that Parliament must become a platform where patriotism, national commitment, facts and constructive ideas converge to accelerate India’s journey towards Viksit Bharat.
