With actor Chiyaan Vikram launching Season 2 and 12 district-based franchises preparing to battle it out, the Cavin’s Tamil Nadu Pickleball Premier League is returning with bigger ambitions, a deeper player pool and an unmistakably professional sporting structure.
The much-anticipated Cavin’s Tamil Nadu Pickleball Premier League (TNPPL) – Season 2 was officially launched in Chennai on Tuesday, marking another significant step in the rapid growth of pickleball across Tamil Nadu.

The launch brought together Chiyaan Vikram, K. Yogesh, Director of the League; K. Mohit Kumar, President of the Tamil Nadu Pickleball Association; Dr. Kavya Somesh, Secretary of the Tamil Nadu Pickleball Association; franchise owners, sports personalities and members of the sporting fraternity.
The official league trophy was unveiled at the event, setting the stage for a season expected to combine competitive intensity with the growing entertainment appeal of pickleball.
12 franchises, 168 players — the court gets bigger
The biggest marker of Season 2’s expansion is the introduction of all 12 franchises, each representing districts across Tamil Nadu.
The franchises were unveiled alongside their owners, with prominent names including Chiyaan Vikram, Varalakshmi Sarathkumar and Keerthi Pandian, among others, adding a strong celebrity dimension to a league that is increasingly attracting attention beyond the traditional pickleball community.
The season will feature 168 players, with each franchise assembling a 14-player squad.
The professional framework is further strengthened by an auction purse of ₹36 lakh, giving the league a competitive structure designed to bring greater depth, strategy and player value to the proceedings.
With district representation, franchise ownership and an organised player-acquisition model coming together, TNPPL Season 2 is seeking to move pickleball from a fast-growing recreational sport towards a more established competitive ecosystem.
‘A defining moment for pickleball in Tamil Nadu’
Speaking at the launch, K. Yogesh, Director of the League, said: “Season 2 of TNPPL marks a defining moment for pickleball in Tamil Nadu. With increased participation, strong franchise ownership, and growing fan interest, we are confident that this league will not only elevate the sport locally but also position Tamil Nadu as a key hub for pickleball in India.”
The second season comes at a time when pickleball is expanding its footprint among players and sports enthusiasts, with its accessibility, fast-paced format and relatively short learning curve helping it attract participants across age groups.
TNPPL’s franchise model seeks to harness that growing interest while providing players with a more structured platform to compete, develop and gain visibility.
‘Professional platform’ meets grassroots push
K. Mohit Kumar, President of the Tamil Nadu Pickleball Association, said: “It is encouraging to see the momentum pickleball has gained in such a short span. That dual ambition—professional competition at the top and grassroots participation at the base—could prove crucial to the sport’s long-term growth.
The league is co-sanctioned by the Tamil Nadu Pickleball Association and the Sports Development Authority of Tamil Nadu, providing institutional support to an event that is steadily building its profile in the State’s sporting calendar.
September serve-off: Chennai ready for the pickleball showdown
The Season 2 matches will be held from September 17 to 20, 2026, at the Express Avenue Atrium, Chennai, bringing the competition into a high-footfall public setting designed to create an engaging spectator experience.
For four days, the court will become a stage for speed, reflexes, tactical placement and relentless rallies, with 12 franchises competing for supremacy.
The presence of celebrity franchise owners, a 168-player field and growing fan interest adds another dimension to the competition, but the real test will unfold on the court—where celebrity appeal must give way to sporting skill.
With its mix of institutional backing, district representation, professional franchise structure and rising public interest, TNPPL Season 2 is poised to become more than another league season.
It could become a defining marker in Tamil Nadu’s pickleball journey—where a sport once played for recreation increasingly learns the language of competition, franchises, fans and ambition.
