AHMEDABAD, AUG 5
With more than three decades of experience spanning agriculture, rural development, technology, human resources and the cooperative sector, G.V. Sunil Kumar has taken charge as Officer In-Charge of NABARD’s Gujarat Regional Office, bringing a broad-based institutional perspective to the State’s rural growth and agricultural development agenda.
Sunil Kumar, Chief General Manager, has assumed charge of the NABARD Gujarat Regional Office, succeeding B.K. Singhal, CGM, who superannuated on July 31, 2026.
Prior to his Gujarat assignment, Sunil Kumar was serving as Chief General Manager in the Department of Information Technology at NABARD’s Head Office. His new responsibility comes at a time when strengthening agriculture, rural livelihoods and inclusive rural development remains central to Gujarat’s development trajectory.
A graduate in Chemical Engineering from BITS Pilani, Sunil Kumar holds a postgraduate degree in Mathematics and an MBA in Human Resources and Marketing. His academic diversity mirrors a professional career that has taken him across several critical areas of NABARD’s operations.
Over a career spanning more than 30 years, he has gained experience in information technology, human resources, agriculture, off-farm development and the cooperative sector, giving him exposure to both developmental and institutional dimensions of rural transformation.
Before taking charge of the Gujarat Regional Office, Sunil Kumar held assignments at NABARD’s Regional Offices in Jaipur, Port Blair and Pune, besides serving at the Head Office in Mumbai.
His professional journey has also included a stint as District Development Manager at Raebareli, where he was closely associated with grassroots-level development initiatives. He subsequently served as a faculty member at the Bankers Institute of Rural Development (BIRD), Mangaluru, adding a training and capacity-building dimension to his experience.
A wider rural development canvas
As Officer In-Charge of NABARD’s Gujarat Regional Office, Sunil Kumar will work towards advancing the institution’s mandate of promoting agriculture and rural development across the State.
His responsibilities will include steering NABARD’s developmental initiatives in alignment with the priorities of the Government, while strengthening the institutional focus on agriculture, rural infrastructure, livelihoods and the broader rural economy.
His extensive exposure to technology and development sectors could also lend a wider perspective to NABARD’s interventions, particularly as rural economies increasingly intersect with digital technology, institutional finance, skill development and new models of livelihood generation.
The change at the top of the Gujarat Regional Office follows the superannuation of B.K. Singhal on July 31, marking the beginning of a new phase under Sunil Kumar’s leadership.
With his experience cutting across technology and traditional development sectors, the new NABARD Gujarat chief brings to the assignment a combination of administrative depth, developmental expertise and field-level exposure—attributes that could prove significant in strengthening the State’s rural development architecture.
