A few minutes at your neighbourhood fair price shop could help ensure that your family’s food-security benefits remain properly linked to the right beneficiary. With Tamil Nadu already achieving 95.86% e-KYC coverage among beneficiaries under Priority Household (PHH) and Antyodaya Anna Yojana (AAY) ration cards, the State government has launched a special two-day drive to bring the remaining beneficiaries into the Aadhaar-linked verification system.

The statewide special camps are being held on August 8 and 9, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., at all fair price shops across Tamil Nadu.
If your fingerprint is still pending, use this opportunity
The campaign is particularly aimed at ration-card beneficiaries and family members who are yet to complete their biometric authentication, primarily through fingerprint verification.
Authorities have appealed to ration-card holders to check whether any member of their family linked to the card is yet to complete e-KYC and, if so, visit their fair price shop during the special camp.
The initiative provides an additional opportunity for beneficiaries who could not complete the verification during the regular exercise.
Why E-KYC matters
The e-KYC exercise is being undertaken to verify the identity of beneficiaries receiving subsidised foodgrains through the Public Distribution System (PDS).
Under the National Food Security Act, 2013, the Union government has directed States to verify Aadhaar details of beneficiaries linked to electronic ration cards.
Biometric authentication helps confirm that the benefits intended for eligible families remain correctly linked to the beneficiaries.
Tamil Nadu has been undertaking e-KYC verification of family members linked to ration cards since October 2023, with fair price shops serving as the access points so that beneficiaries can complete the process conveniently.
95.86% done—the final gap needs every family’s attention
The State’s progress means that the vast majority of eligible beneficiaries have already completed the verification.
But the remaining 4.14% represents beneficiaries who still need to act.
The special weekend drive has therefore been organised as the State moves towards complete e-KYC coverage among PHH and AAY beneficiaries.
For families that have postponed the process, the message is simple: do not assume that someone else in the family has completed it. Check, confirm and complete the verification if it is still pending.
Two days, one simple action
Beneficiaries whose e-KYC is pending are urged to visit their respective fair price shops on Saturday or Sunday, August 8 or 9, between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m., and register their fingerprints for biometric authentication.
The facilities are available across Tamil Nadu during the stipulated camp hours.
The government’s appeal is aimed at ensuring that no eligible beneficiary misses the opportunity to complete the Aadhaar-linked verification.
