From the streets of Madhya Pradesh to Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Jharkhand and West Bengal, the Tricolour rose as a powerful symbol of remembrance and national pride on Sunday, as the BJP launched ‘Tiranga Yatra’ programmes across several States ahead of India’s 80th Independence Day.

Carrying the national flag and recalling the sacrifices of those who fought for freedom, party leaders said the nationwide campaign was aimed at honouring the courage of revolutionaries, martyrs and freedom fighters whose sacrifices secured India’s independence and the honour of the Tricolour.
The launch on August 9 carried added historical resonance, coinciding with the anniversary of the Quit India Movement and also observed as Kakori Train Action Day.
‘India’s freedom longing echoed across the world’
In Madhya Pradesh, Chief Minister Mohan Yadav joined a Tiranga Yatra and linked the campaign with the historic call for the British to quit India.
“With the call of ‘Quit India’, the world witnessed the longing for freedom within India… It is the duty of every patriotic citizen to remember the sacrifices made by all our revolutionaries, martyrs and freedom fighters, who made sacrifices. Therefore, as Independence Day is approaching, the Tiranga Yatra has been launched across the country,” Yadav said.
“We pray that India remains forever young and that independence remains forever immortal,” he added.
Youth power takes the Tricolour forward
In Uttar Pradesh, Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak highlighted the enthusiasm among young people participating in the campaign.
“Even before Independence Day, we have seen great enthusiasm among the youth across the state. Today, lakhs of young people came out onto the streets carrying the Tricolour and took a pledge to carry it from booth to booth. The ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign is turning out to be highly successful in the state,” he said.
Earlier, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath also participated in the Tiranga rally, describing India’s youth as a formidable national force.
“Our youth are a symbol of energy. Our youth have the strength to face every challenge for the country. This youth energy should get the right platform to move forward and prepare themselves to face the challenges of the country and society. They should also receive traditional education. With this vision, the Tiranga Yatra is being launched across the country by the Bharatiya Janata Party, the world’s largest political organisation…” he said.
‘Nation First’ message echoes across States
In Rajasthan, Minister Jogaram Patel said the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign would be carried out throughout the Independence Day week across the State and the country.
“We started the campaign from Jodhpur today, followed by a Tiranga rally in which a large number of people participated,” he said.
Emphasising the symbolism of the national flag, Patel said the Tricolour represents patriotism and the spirit of ‘nation first’.
“Through this Tiranga Yatra, we are remembering the sacrifices of all our freedom fighters,” he said.
In Jharkhand’s Ranchi, Union Minister of State for Defence Sanjay Seth participated in the event and said the campaign was reinforcing national pride.
“Through the Tiranga Yatra, the spirit of ‘Nation First’ is being promoted. The Tiranga is our pride, honour and glory,” Seth said.
Jharkhand BJP president Aditya Sahu recalled the immense human cost behind the freedom struggle.
“Crores of people had sacrificed their lives for this tricolour. So many women lost their husbands and children were orphaned. So, to uphold the honour of the Tricolour, the Tiranga Yatra is being held across the country, on the call of Prime Minister Narendra Modi,” he said.
From Bengal, a promise for ‘Tiranga in every home’
In West Bengal’s Kharagpur, Minister Dilip Ghosh participated in the rally and said the Tiranga Yatra would be expanded to other districts.
“Across Bengal, the Tiranga will be taken to every household and placed in every home,” Ghosh said.
He added that a major carnival would be held in Kolkata on August 10, with scores of people expected to participate.
A day earlier, Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari had launched the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign with a march in his Assembly constituency of Bhabanipur.
A flag that carries a nation’s memory
As India moves towards its 80th Independence Day, the Tiranga Yatra is turning public spaces into moving reminders of the nation’s freedom struggle.
From the Quit India call of August 9, 1942, to the Tricolour carried proudly on today’s streets, the campaign seeks to connect generations with the sacrifices that made freedom possible.
For millions, the Tricolour is more than a flag—it is a reminder of courage, sacrifice, unity and an unfinished national responsibility.
And as the Tiranga travels from street to street and home to home, the message resonates across the country: remember those who gave everything for freedom, and honour the freedom they won.
