What if a student’s biggest educational breakthrough is not a higher mark, a better entrance rank or a coveted admission — but simply receiving the right scholarship information before the fee deadline? For an engineering aspirant worried about tuition and related expenses, such support can make the difference between merely securing admission and actually completing the course.

For women aspiring to build careers in science, technology, engineering and mathematics, the OakNorth Scholarship and Mentorship Programme 2026-27 provides support to underprivileged female students from Jharkhand and Bihar who have completed Class 12 and enrolled in STEM undergraduate programmes at government institutions.

The SBI Platinum Jubilee Asha Scholarship 2026-27, an initiative of SBI Foundation, covers a broad academic spectrum, supporting meritorious students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds from Classes 9 to 12 through undergraduate and postgraduate education, besides eligible medical, IIT, IIM and overseas programmes.

Support that follows students across the education ladder

The Parivartan ECSS Programme 2026-27 is another initiative aimed at meritorious students from financially underprivileged families, with eligibility extending from Class 1 to postgraduate education.

The JK Tyre Shiksha Sarthi Scholarship Program 2026-27 focuses on daughters of heavy-vehicle drivers pursuing undergraduate or diploma courses in general or professional fields. Eligible students from Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu can receive assistance of up to ₹25,000, with renewal possible for the duration of the course subject to academic and renewal criteria.

For students from Punjab, the Satya Scholarship Program 2026, supported by Nehru Sidhant Kender Trust, offers 100% tuition-fee coverage and accommodation support to meritorious Class 12 graduates pursuing three- to five-year undergraduate or integrated master’s programmes in Commerce, Engineering and Medical & Health Sciences at select institutes.

The message running through these programmes is unmistakable: financial assistance need not be restricted to one academic stage or one kind of learner.

Beyond tuition: Supporting the students who keep India moving

Some scholarship programmes also recognise the circumstances in which families earn their livelihoods.

The Muskaan Scholarship Program 2.0 (2026-27), an initiative of Valvoline Cummins Private Ltd., supports students in Classes 9 to 12 from southern, eastern and northeastern India, particularly children of commercial drivers and mechanics, besides students belonging to the EWS category.

Meanwhile, the Eastman Powerup Eduskill Scholarship Program 2026-27, promoted by Eastman Auto and Power Limited, supports engineering, diploma and management students from financially constrained backgrounds. Along with financial assistance of up to ₹20,000, the programme provides access to industry-relevant certification courses, with assistance disbursed on a milestone basis upon course completion.

This is particularly significant because the cost of education is no longer confined to tuition. Certifications, skills training, technology access and industry exposure increasingly influence employability.

The real scholarship revolution must happen at the grassroots

The ultimate test of any scholarship programme is not simply the amount allocated or the number of scholarships announced.

It is how many deserving students actually discover the opportunity, apply correctly, receive the assistance and complete their education.

That requires a collective effort.

Parents must actively ask about financial-aid opportunities rather than assume scholarships are meant only for toppers.

Teachers and schools can identify financially vulnerable but academically promising students and alert them to relevant schemes.

Colleges and universities can strengthen scholarship cells and application support, particularly for first-generation learners.

Career counsellors can make funding options an integral part of course-selection advice.

Corporates and philanthropic organisations can simplify application processes, widen outreach and publish clear eligibility requirements.

And students themselves must be encouraged to explore legitimate scholarship platforms and apply well before deadlines.
