MUMBAI, SEPT 15

The future of banking may no longer be defined by the size of a branch network, but by how intelligently, securely and seamlessly money can move. City Union Bank (CUB) has put that proposition firmly on the fintech map, unveiling a wide-ranging portfolio of 12 next-generation payment and digital banking solutions at the Global FinTech Fest (GFF) 2026 in Mumbai.

From biometric authentication and tokenised credentials to cloud-native UPI infrastructure, FASTag portability, AI-powered international travel payments and anti-fraud technology, the CUB portfolio reflects a decisive shift from conventional digital banking towards an interconnected financial technology ecosystem.

  • One Credential pilot, RuPay Passkey, FASTag portability and cloud-native UPI infrastructure underline the bank’s technology-first push
  • @napID Anti-Fraud Gateway adds another layer of protection as digital transactions surge
  • CUB teams up with Mastercard, NPCI, TechFini, Wizzmoni, Odyssey and other ecosystem partners
  • Four awards at GFF 2026 add further momentum to the bank’s digital transformation journey

The bank’s technology push comes at a time when GFF 2026 is positioning India at the centre of the next wave of global financial innovation, with Agentic AI, tokenisation and quantum technologies among the principal themes of the event.

“Our focus is to make banking simpler, safer and more connected for our customers. The solutions unveiled at GFF 2026 reflect our commitment to combining innovative technology with strong banking capabilities to address evolving customer needs. Through strategic partnerships with fintech and ecosystem players, we are strengthening our digital infrastructure while contributing to the continued growth of India’s digital payments ecosystem,” said City Union Bank.

12 solutions, one technology vision

The portfolio covers multiple layers of the payment journey—from making a transaction to authenticating it, securing it, resolving a problem and even deciding which underlying account should ultimately fund it.

1. Tap & Pay

CUB’s Tap & Pay solution is designed to simplify contactless transactions, combining speed, convenience and secure payment capabilities for everyday purchases.

2. UPI Help 2.0 – MyUPI

UPI Help 2.0 – MyUPI focuses on the often-overlooked post-transaction experience. It is designed to provide customers with easier access to assistance and resolution for UPI-related queries, strengthening confidence in digital payments.

3. RuPay Passkey

With RuPay Passkey, biometric authentication moves closer to becoming a natural part of the payment experience. Customers can use native device authentication such as Face ID or Touch ID for secure e-commerce transactions, reducing dependence on conventional passwords.

4. FASTag Portability

CUB’s FASTag Portability initiative seeks to remove one of the practical pain points faced by motorists changing banks. Instead of replacing the physical FASTag, customers can migrate their active toll-linked account to CUB, potentially reducing paperwork, delays and inconvenience.

5. CUB Shreshta RuPay Credit Card

Developed with NPCI, CUB Shreshta is positioned as a premium, tier-based RuPay credit card bringing together rewards, lifestyle benefits, travel and digital payment capabilities, including UPI-linked transactions.

6. PayPro SDK

CUB has also launched PayPro SDK in association with NPCI BHIM and BuckBox Infotech.

The solution is aimed at enterprises, fintech platforms, e-commerce businesses and digital applications seeking to integrate UPI payment capabilities directly into their platforms—potentially reducing integration complexity while creating a smoother payment experience.

7. Cloud-native UPI Switch

CUB has implemented TechFini’s cloud-native UPI switch to strengthen its acquiring and issuing infrastructure.

The platform is designed to support high-concurrency environments and provide bank-anchored UPI rails and collection solutions for fintechs, NBFCs, aggregators and enterprises.

The move is particularly significant as Indian digital payments increasingly demand infrastructure that is not merely fast, but scalable, resilient and capable of handling massive transaction volumes.

8. Wizz Voyager Smart Travel Card

CUB and Wizzmoni Financial Services have partnered to launch Wizz Voyager, an AI-powered travel card aimed at Indian travellers.

The platform provides access to 37 international currencies, alongside features such as real-time exchange-rate locking and automated spending controls, bringing foreign-exchange management closer to the smartphone generation.

9. World Select Powered by Mastercard

CUB’s World Select Powered by Mastercard is targeted at the premium customer segment, bringing together benefits spanning travel, dining, wellness, entertainment and lifestyle.

The initiative seeks to move premium cards beyond payment instruments towards personalised lifestyle platforms.

10. Mastercard One Credential

One of the most significant announcements is the India pilot of Mastercard One Credential with CUB.

Mastercard describes it as India’s first such experience, enabling eligible consumer and commercial payment relationships to be brought together through a single tokenised credential. Customers and SMEs can set rules based on transaction amount, merchant category or channel, with payments automatically routed to the appropriate underlying source of funds.

That could represent a subtle but important change in how customers think about cards: one credential, multiple sources of money, intelligent routing.

11. @napID Anti-Fraud Gateway

CUB has also launched the @napID Anti-Fraud Gateway, designed to strengthen protection against digital payment fraud.

The technology keeps account credentials in a protected “sleep mode” until they are required for a transaction, adding another security layer to the digital payment journey.

The solution was inaugurated at the CUB stall by Brijesh Baisakhiyar, Deputy General Manager, Reserve Bank of India.

12. xorkee Authentication

In collaboration with Odyssey, CUB has introduced an enhanced Two-Factor Authentication mechanism for RuPay credit card transactions, aimed at strengthening payment security and customer confidence.

The bigger fintech picture

CUB’s announcements arrive as India’s digital finance ecosystem enters a new phase.

The Global FinTech Fest 2026 theme—“Potential to Impact: Trusted, Connected, Global Systems for Inclusive Finance”—places the emphasis not merely on digital payments but on the technologies and infrastructure that can reshape financial services.

RBI Governor Sanjay Malhotra has also highlighted how UPI, Aadhaar-enabled payments and the Jan Dhan ecosystem have transformed financial access, while stressing the next challenges around credit, fraud detection, supervision and financial inclusion.

The implication for banks is clear: the next competitive advantage will belong to institutions that can combine trust, technology and scale.

CUB’s strategy is therefore not simply about launching more digital products. Its growing ecosystem of partnerships suggests an attempt to build the technological plumbing through which customers, fintechs, enterprises and payment networks can interact.

Four awards add to CUB’s fintech momentum

The technology showcase was complemented by recognition at GFF 2026, with CUB winning four awards, adding another dimension to its digital transformation journey.

The Global Fintech Awards recognise innovation across areas including fintech, banking technology, AI-powered financial innovation and special achievements.

For CUB, the combination of new products, ecosystem partnerships and industry recognition sends a broader message: the traditional bank is being reinvented from the inside out.

With R. Vijay Anandh, MD & CEO; V. Ramesh, Executive Director; G. Sankaran, Executive President; K. Jayaraman, Senior General Manager; and Kamal Sabhlok, Chief Business Officer, leading the CUB delegation, the bank’s presence at GFF 2026 underlined its ambition to remain at the intersection of banking and technology.

As India seeks to take its digital public infrastructure and payment innovation to global markets, the next question is no longer whether fintech will transform banking.

It is whether banks such as CUB can transform fast enough to help India shape the future architecture of global finance.
