  • Limited-period offer runs through October 20, 2026, subject to eligibility and terms

NE BUSINESS BUREAU
AHMEDABAD, OCT 3

A decade after Jio helped reshape India’s mobile-connectivity landscape, its latest anniversary offer is taking aim at another digital divide—the millions still relying on basic feature phones—by putting a JioBharat 4G device and six months of connectivity benefits together for ₹1,499, making the effective upgrade cost ₹299 when compared with six months of ₹199 connectivity expenditure.

The Jio Anniversary Offer, available for a limited period, is designed to encourage eligible feature-phone users to move from 2G to 4G while gaining access to a wider range of digital services.

Under the offer, the JioBharat B2 is priced at ₹1,499 and comes with six months of anniversary recharge benefits. Jio’s official terms specify six recharge cycles of 28 days each, with 14GB of total data per cycle, including 0.5GB high-speed data per day, unlimited voice calls and 300 SMS. (Jio)

The offer period runs from September 15, 2026, to October 20, 2026, unless extended or terminated earlier by Jio, according to the company’s terms and conditions.

The ₹299 digital upgrade proposition

For consumers accustomed to spending around ₹199 a month on connectivity, six months of such expenditure would amount to about ₹1,194.

Against this backdrop, Jio positions the ₹1,499 bundled device-and-connectivity proposition as an effective ₹299 incremental cost for the 4G handset upgrade.

The calculation is essentially straightforward: ₹1,499 bundled offer price minus about ₹1,200 in six-month connectivity expenditure = roughly ₹299 effective device cost.

The precise benefit, however, depends on the applicable eligibility criteria, activation and continued maintenance of the eligible Jio device-SIM combination.

Jio’s current device listings identify the JioBharat B2 (6 Months Free Recharge) at ₹1,499, with the regular listed price shown as ₹2,599.

More than a feature phone

The proposition goes beyond replacing a 2G handset with a 4G keypad phone.

JioBharat is designed to bring several digital services to users who may not want, or may not be ready for, a conventional smartphone.

The ecosystem includes:

Entertainment: JioTV for television content, along with access to live sports, movies and entertainment through Jio’s digital ecosystem.

Digital payments: UPI payments through JioPay, bringing digital transactions to a feature-phone environment.

Family and safety: Jio’s safety and connectivity features are aimed at helping families remain connected.

Everyday usability: The JioBharat platform combines keypad-phone simplicity with 4G connectivity and digital services. Jio’s product information highlights features including HD voice calling, UPI payments and entertainment services.

The data equation

Under the anniversary offer, each 28-day recharge cycle carries 14GB of total data, equivalent to 0.5GB of high-speed data per day, along with unlimited domestic voice calling and 300 SMS. (Jio)

Over six consecutive cycles, that works out to 84GB of total data, subject to the offer’s terms and the continued eligibility of the subscriber.

The company’s existing JioBharat plans also highlight the positioning of the platform around affordable data and voice access.)

Connecting the next million digital users

The larger significance of the anniversary offer lies in its digital-inclusion proposition.

India’s smartphone ecosystem has expanded rapidly, but the transition from basic mobile connectivity to internet-enabled services is not uniform across all sections of society. By combining a relatively low-cost 4G device with bundled connectivity, Jio is seeking to reduce one of the barriers to that transition.

For a feature-phone user, the upgrade potentially means moving beyond calls and SMS into digital payments, entertainment, information and internet-enabled services without immediately making the jump to a conventional smartphone.

The offer also reflects Jio’s broader strategy of using affordable devices and connectivity to expand the addressable base for digital services.

Limited-period offer with conditions

The anniversary benefits are not an unconditional six-month free-recharge promise.

Jio’s terms specify that an eligible subscriber must purchase and activate an eligible device during the offer period and maintain the prescribed IMEI-MSISDN combination during the benefit period. The six recharge benefits are credited cycle by cycle, subject to continued eligibility. (Jio)

The offer is therefore best viewed as a device-plus-connectivity package, rather than simply a handset discount.

For millions seeking an affordable route from basic mobile connectivity into India’s 4G digital economy, however, the proposition carries a simple festive-season message:

the next step into digital Bharat need not begin with an expensive smartphone.
