Five months after granting weekly offs to police personnel, the Andhra Pradesh Government hiked the group insurance coverage for police personnel of all ranks. This has been done after a gap of 20 years, Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy said.
The government, in a review meeting, has decided to increase the group insurance amount for police constables from Rs. 13 lakh to Rs 20 lakh. The coverage for Sub-Inspectors and Inspectors has been hiked to Rs 35 lakh and for Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) and higher cadre officials the coverage was hiked to Rs 45 lakh.
“If police die naturally, he will get and a sum of Rs. 30 lakhs, while any police die in a terrorist attack, Rs. 40 lakh insurance will be covered. Of these, 64,719 families of police personnel get insurance coverage,” CM Jagan said.
The State government has paid a sum of Rs 4.74 crore to the United Insurance company for this purpose.
Home Minister Mekathota Sucharitha, DGP Gautam Sawang, and Additional DG Ravishankar Iyengar and the Insurance company officials were also present at the review meeting.
The Police Officers’ Association thanked the Chief Minister for the government’s interest in the welfare of police families. Moreover, they said the weekly off for police has brought happiness for 64,000 police families and accidental policy, police Group insurance has strengthened loyalty towards the government.
