MYSURU, MAY 13
Throwing their lot behind the frontline COVID warriors, the NCC Cadets under ‘3 Karnataka Girls Battalion NCC, Mysuru’ have donated home-made face masks to Mysuru Deputy Commissioner for distribution among the health workers and the public on Wednesday, a Defence spokesman said.
In a commendable gesture and worthy of emulation, NCC Girl Cadets from NCC Group, Mysuru had come forward with the initiative of making locally stitched high-quality pleated cotton face masks for the district authorities. Under this initiative, the first lot of masks have been handed over to Mysuru Deputy Commissioner Abhiram G Sankar at his office.
Commanding Officer of 3 Karnataka Girls Battalion NCC, Mysuru said, “Initially, Kalpana, an NCC Cadet, has made face masks at her home for her native villagers. Under the guidance of Administrative Officer of the Battalion and lady instructors — K Divya Suresh, Lekshmi Das, Divya KP — some more cadets Sowjanya, Divya Kumari, Ananya R Shetty, Pooja A, Ranjitha and Deeksha stitched the face masks. Ex-serviceman Chettimada U Janardhan immensely contributed towards the logistics.”
“It is a proud moment for them since the initiative was started by the girls on their own. They are doing a great deal of work sourcing cotton clothes themselves and stitching high-quality pleated masks since the lockdown has made the availability of cotton scarce. Now, NCC Battalion is working on sourcing the clothes for the girls,” the Commander added.
