Shortage of onion was the reason for the price rise across the country, the prices would come down in 20 days, said Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami.
The Chief Minister said that “there is good yield this season in Tamil Nadu. Harvest would start soon and in the next 20 days prices will drop.”
The price of premium quality onion has touched a new high. It was sold at Rs. 200 per kilogram. The cost of similar variety of onion was Rs.150 per kilogram a week ago.
Onions sourced from Nasik in Maharashtra, are available between Rs.150 and Rs.180 at the Koyambedu wholesale market. The low quality onion is sold for Rs. 80 but it has a shelf life of only a few days.
