The count of coronavirus cases in Gujarat rose to 17,632 on Tuesday with the addition of 415 new infections, while the toll increased to 1,092 after 29 more patients died due to the infection, 24 of them in Ahmedabad alone, said the state health department.

As many as 1,114 COVID-19 patients were discharged from hospitals on Tuesday, raising the number of recovered cases in the state to 11,894, it said here.

With this, the state has 4,646 active cases, of which 62 are on ventilators, the department said.

The government said there has been a significant drop in the number of active cases in the state, accounting for only 26.35 percent of the total infections compared to 53.19 percent two weeks ago.
Ahmedabad accounted for 279 of the 415 new COVID-19 cases reported from across the state in the last 24 hours, raising the tally in the worst-hit district to 12,773, the department said.

At the same time, as many as 1,019 patients were also discharged from Ahmedabad hospitals in a single day on Tuesday.
Out of the 29 patients who died in the state on Tuesday, 24 succumbed in Ahmedabad alone, two in Aravalli, and one each in Surat, Mehsana, and Junagadh districts, the department said.

The number of coronavirus cases in Surat rose to 1,716 with 57 new cases, while in Vadodara, it increased to 1,106, with 32 fresh infections.
Gandhinagar reported 15 new cases and Mehsana five, out of 17 districts that reported fresh infections, the health department said.
Coronavirus tests have been conducted on 2,21,610 people so far in Gujarat, it said.
A total of 2,34,017 patients are under home quarantine in the state.

CM forms Expert Group of Doctors for implementing and supervising healthcare strategies
Chief Minister Vijay Rupani and Deputy Chief Minister Nitin Patel on Tuesday formed an expert committee of nine renowned doctors in order to implement strategies, supervise the health care system amidst the COVID-19 crisis.
Principal Secretary (Health) Dr. Jayanti Ravi will be the Convenor of the committee. Other members include Dr. Atul Patel, Dr. Tushar Patel, Dr.R.K Patel, Dr. Tejas Patel, Dr. Maharishi, Dr. Dilip Malvankar, Dr. Pankaj Shah, Dr. Ami Parikh, and Dr.V.N Shah. This committee will provide suggestions to the state government on the public health system, health facilities, treatment protocol, etc just like the Economic Revival Committee headed by Dr. Hasmukh Adhia which is providing suggestions for improving and reviving the economy of the state.
The expert group of doctors will provide short term, medium-term, and long term suggestions and strategies to the government for strengthening healthcare in the state.
Chief Principal Secretary to CM K.Kailashnathan, Chief Secretary Anil Mukim, Pankaj Kumar- ACS, Revenue, P.S to CM M.K Das, Secretary to CM. Ashwani Kumar, P.S Health Dr. Jayanti Ravi, Commissioner of Health. Jayprakash Shivhare and medical experts were present during the meeting.
Over 68 lakh families to get free foodgrains under NFSA again
About 68.7 lakh families holding ration cards under the National Food Security Act (NFSA) in Gujarat will get free foodgrains for the third time since April amidst the coronavirus-driven lockdown, the state government said on Tuesday.
This will benefit 3.36 crore people in the state affected by the lockdown, it said.
“Similar arrangements were made for NFSA ration-card holding families in the months of April and May, when the lockdown was more stringent than it is now,” an official release said.
The beneficiaries can avail 3.5 kg wheat and 1.5 kg rice per person, and 1 kg chana per family, from fair price shops starting June 15, it said.
The state government had distributed 72 lakh quintals of free grains to 68 lakh NFSA families in April and May costing Rs 802 crore at the current market price, it said.
