``We planned to distribute30 lakh house site pattas on July 8 but the Opposition has intentionally moved the Court and we took it to the apex court where the cases could not be disposed of due to Corona and we hope that a favourable verdict will come before August 15, he said during a review meeting on House site pattas as part of the Spandana video conference here on Tuesday.

AMARAVATI, JULY 7

Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy on Tuesday announced that he will launch distribution of free house site patta to BPL families on August 15.

The government is anticipating a favourable ruling by the Court in this regard and accused that the opposition TDP is trying to halt welfare programmes for the poor and downtrodden.

“We planned to distribute 30 lakh house site pattas on July 8 but the Opposition has intentionally moved the Court and we took it to the apex court where the cases could not be disposed of due to Corona and we hope that a favourable verdict will come before August 15, he said during a review meeting on House site pattas as part of the Spandana video conference here on Tuesday.

If the house sites are to be given as D-Form pattas they can be given even now but we wanted to register the house sites in the name of the woman of the household which will serve like an asset to them. We are doing things with good intention and hope that good will prevail.

This must be the first time that such a mega project of distributing house sites in such a large scale was planned covering nearly 20 per cent of the population. We are doing something which was never conceived anywhere in the country and wanted to see that 30 lakh people become house owners for which we have acquired 62 K acres of land. We spent Rs 7,500 crores for buying private lands for the purpose’’ the Chief Minister said.

In all the house sites worth Rs 20 K crores would be distributed among 30 lakh families and such good intentions are being questioned by the Opposition. During the previous government term, only 3.5 lakh houses were built and in that venture as well Rs 1,300 crores was kept pending as dues.

The previous government planned for seven lakh houses under urban housing but started with just three lakh houses which were stopped midway. Rs 3,000 crores are pending towards this venture.

We are determined to go ahead with the house sites scheme and will go ahead with the construction of 15 lakh houses. The work will start within one month after giving the pattas and the contrast between the previous government and ours is marked clearly, he said.

The Collectors should carry out the works with the same vigour in wake of the postponement. The pattas should have clarity in numbering and boundaries and properly labelled. Saplings should be planted as per the layout and other formalities should be completed. The details should be displayed at Village Secretariats and the pattas should be given within 90 days from the date of application.

Minister for Panchayat Raj, Peddireddy Ramchandra Reddy, Chief Secretary Neelam Sawhney, DGP Goutham Sawang and other officials were present at the review meeting.

Meanwhile, the Principal Secretary of the Housing Department Ajay Jain said “we are currently in the process of providing infrastructure like land leveling, approach roads, electricity, water etc. at about 15,000 layouts.”

Jain said “This is a beneficiary-led construction and each house would cost us Rs 2.5 lakh. All these houses will be individual houses measuring 288 sq ft to 300 sq ft each. They will be constructed following energy efficient practices. As a result, the temperature inside the houses will be 3-4 degrees less compared to the outside temperature. We have tied up with BEE and GOI in this regard,” he added.
