Gujarat on Sunday reported the highest single-day spike of 1,110 new COVID-19 cases, taking the total count to 55,822 while 21 patients died, including 12 in Surat, the state health department said.
The cumulative death toll in the state now stands at 2,326.
The number of recovered cases rose to 40,365 with 753 patients being discharged during the day.
The recovery rate in the state now stands at 72.31 percent.
In Ahmedabad BJP corporator from Kalupur ward Krishnavadan Brahmbhatt has been reported corona positive, sources said.
18 inmates of Vadodara Central Jail were reported positive for COVID-19 on Sunday, officials said.
Surat continued to report the highest number of cases in the state. On Sunday, it added 299 new cases, taking the count in the district to 12,268, the health department said.
With 12 fatalities in the day, the death toll in Surat district went up to 544, it said.
Ahmedabad reported 163 new cases, taking the count to 25,692. With three deaths, the number of fatalities in the district rose to 1,575.
Out of 21 fatalities in the day, two deaths were reported from Vadodara and one each from Gandhinagar, Jamnagar, Morbi, and Rajkot, the release said.
Vadodara reported 92 new cases, Rajkot 72, Amreli 39, Banaskantha 35, Dahod 30, Bhavnagar 31, Narmada 26, Surendranagar 24, Chhota Udepur and Patan 22 each, Junagadh 20, Jamnagar 14, Gandhinagar 19, Kutch 20, and Bharuch 19.
A total of 21,708 tests were conducted in the day, taking the total count in the state so far to 6,42,370, which comes at 333.96 tests per day per million population, the department said.
A total 3,64,518 persons are in quarantine in the state, it said.
Gujarat’s COVID-19 figures are as follows: Positive cases 55,822, new cases 1,110, deaths 2,326, discharged 40,365, active cases 13,131 and people tested so far 6,42,370.
Surat case count crosses 12K-mark
Surat reported an increase of 299 COVID-19 cases on Sunday, which pushed the tally of patients in the district to 12,268, the state health department said.
Of the total number of new cases, as many as 201 were from Surat city alone, while others were from the district”s rural parts, it said.
The fatality count in the district rose to 544 after 12 more people died due to the infection, it said.
Of these, seven fatalities were reported in the city and five in other parts of the district, the department said in a statement.
The number of positive cases in Surat city rose to 9,930, while the rural parts of the district have so far reported 2,338 cases.
In the rural parts, the Kamrej block is the worst-affected with as many as 603 cases so far, followed by Bardoli and Choryasi with 332 and 331 cases respectively.
Kamrej has also reported the highest number of 44 deaths, followed by Olpad block with 14 deaths, officials said.

The number of COVID-19 cases in Ahmedabad district rose to 25,692 on Sunday with addition of 163 new patients, the state Health department said.

The death toll mounted by three to 1,575, it said.
Notably, 168 patients were discharged during the day, five more than the number of new cases being recorded, taking the count of recoveries to 20,371 in the district, it said.

Of the 163 new cases, Ahmedabad city reported 152 cases while the rest 11 cases were reported from rural areas, taking the count to 1,188.
All three deaths were reported from areas under the Ahmedabad municipal corporation, the department said.

With the civic body reshuffling micro containment areas, their total number in Ahmedabad now stands at 237, a release said.
The cumulative number of the recoveries in rural areas rose to 1,027 with 46 patients being discharged during the day, it said.
