To mark the Vijay Diwas, the day in which, India defeated Pakistan in the 1971 war, a wreath laying ceremony was organised by the Southern Command of defence forces on Monday to remember the dedication of those who laid their lives for the motherhood.
The day also marks the anniversary of the unconditional surrender of 90,000 troops of Pakistan to Indian Armed Forces in 1971 and the subsequent formation of Bangladesh.
To pay homage to the soldiers of all three services who made the supreme sacrifice for our Nation during Indo-Pak War of 1971, the solemn ceremony is conducted at various War Memorials in the country, where the sacrifices made by the Three Services are remembered and the brave soldiers honoured.
The ceremony was held at Victory War Memorial located on Beach Road in Chennai.
Serving, retired senior officers of the three services, Junior Commissioned Officers, Jawans and Veer Naris laid wreaths and paid floral tributes at the War Memorial.
A well turned out and a smart guard of, the Garrison Battalion saluted with arms and the last post was sounded followed by observing a two-minute silence.
The service representatives, Air Commodore MS Awana, Air Officer Commanding, Air Force Tambaram, Major General Prakash Chandra, Chief of Staff, Headquarters Dakshin Bharat Area, Rear Admiral KJ Kumar, Vishisht Seva Medal, Flag Officer Commanding, FOTNA and Lieutenant General P Nagesh Rao, Yudh Seva Medal, Sena Medal, General Officer Commanding, Dakshin Bharat Area laid the wreaths on this solemn occasion, says a defence press release.
