Additional Director General Vijay Digambar Chafekar, PTM, TM appreciated the operational readiness and infrastructural development of ICG NorthWest Region.
He was on a two-day visit to Coast Guard NorthWest Region, Gujarat after assuming charge as Coast Guard Commander (Western Seaboard) on November 1.
The visit is aimed at taking stock of steps taken towards bolstering coastal security mechanism of Gujarat. The ADG was specifically briefed about the coastal security mechanism and preparedness of Coastguard Region (NorthWest) to tackle maritime emergencies such as marine oil spills, search and rescue etc. An overview of the Region’s efforts to develop ICG infrastructure along the coast of Gujarat was also presented to the Flag Officer. The ADG visited the Coast Guard ship berthing facilities at Porbandar, Coast Guard Air Enclave and Coast Guard Store Depot and also interacted with Officers, Sailors during his visit at Porbandar. He expressed his satisfaction with the preparedness at HQs Region but reiterated the need to be alert and vigilant to thwart any attempt by anti-national elements to breach the Coastal Security. He expressed satisfaction at the prompt response by CG Ships and aircraft to numerous Search and Rescue (SAR) & medical evacuations at sea, including assistance to fishermen in distress.
