Setting at rest the rumours on early release (before September end) of former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa’s aid V.K. Sasikala, an RTI information obtained by an individual revealed that she may be released from Parappana Agraharam prison on January 27, 2021 provided if she pay entire fine amount of Rs. 10 crore.
As per early reports, an RTI query raised by one Narasimha Moorthy from Bangalore was responded by the authorities of Parappana Agrahara prison. This comes as an answer to the much-speculated release date of one of the convict, VK Sasikala in the disproportionate assets case.
The authorities have said that upon paying the entire fine amount of 10 crores, Sasikala’s “probable date of release” will be on January 27, 2021. Failing which, as per judgement she has to undergo the default of sentence of imprisonment and her release will be postponed to February 27, 2022.
Further, the authorities said that her date of release may vary if she utilises the parole facility.
Earlier, VK Sasikala’s counsel Raja Senthura Pandian had said that she is likely to be released from the prison by the end of September or early October. He had further said that due to her good character and conduct while she was undergoing imprisonment, her term has been reduced and she likely to be released after due admonition.
