Gujarat saw its highest single-day spike of 1,432 coronavirus cases on Saturday, raising the total number of cases to 1,21,930, while 5 Assembly staffers tested positive, the state health department said.

With 16 patients succumbing, the COVID-19 death toll in the state rose to 3,305, it said.
The number of recoveries exceeded the number of new cases, with 1,470 patients getting discharged on Saturday.
This raised the total number of recovered cases in the state to 1,02,571, the department said in its release.
With this, the state”s recovery rate is now 84.12 percent, the department said in its release.
Surat reported 281 new cases, the highest in the state. Ahmedabad followed with 178 new cases.
Rajkot with 151 new cases, Vadodara 138 and Jamnagar with 126 were the three other districts that reported over 100 new cases.
Among other districts, Mehsana reported 69 new cases, Banaskantha and Gandhinagar 44 each, Bhavnagar 42, Junagadh 35, Panchmahal 30, Amreli 29, Morbi 28, Kutch 26, Bharuch 24, Patan 23, Mahisagar 16, Dahod and Gir Somnath 15 each, Devbhumi Dwarka 14, Sabarkantha 13, Kheda, Narmada and Surendranagar 12 each, Anand and Tapi ten each.
Surat also accounted for the highest five of the 16 deaths reported in the state.
Ahmedabad reported three fatalities, Bhavnagar and Vadodara two each, and Amreli, Gandhinagar, Kutch, and Rajkot one each, the department said.
The number of active cases in Gujarat now stands at 16,054, out of which the condition of 97 patients is critical, the department said.
As many as 61,432 tests were conducted for COVID-19 in the state over the last 24 hours, at the rate of 945.11 tests per day per million population.
Gujarat COVID-19 figures are as follows: Positive cases 1,21,930, new cases 1,432, deaths 3,305, discharged 1,02,571, active cases 16,054, and people tested so far 37,39,782.

281 new cases in Surat, five deaths; 255 street vendors removed for violation of guideline
Surat’s tally of coronavirus cases rose to 24,972 with 281 new cases being reported on Saturday, the Gujarat health department said.
The district continued to report the highest-singe day spike in cases in Gujarat.
With five fatalities, the death toll in the Surat district reached 893.
Surat city reported 174 new cases, while the rural parts reported 107.
Of the five deaths, four were reported from rural areas.
Out of 257 recoveries on Saturday, 171 were reported in the city and 86 in the rural parts.
The Surat Municipal Corporation said on Saturday that it has collected a total of Rs 1.95 crore as fine from 45,208 persons for violation of guidelines about masks, social distancing, and prohibition of spitting in public places.
255 street vendors were removed for violation of guidelines.
The civic body also informed that so far 24 tea stall owners have tested positive in the city. It asked people to maintain social distancing and avoid visiting tea stalls where the owner is not wearing a face mask.
The SMC conducted tests on 978 passengers entering the city through various checkposts, and found 37 to be positive.
At the same time, only one out of 708 grocery shop owners tested positive for the virus, it said.

178 new coronavirus cases in Ahmedabad, three deaths
Coronavirus case count in Ahmedabad rose to 34,758 with 178 new patients reported on Saturday, the Gujarat health department said.
Three COVID-19 patients died during the day, taking the death toll in the district due to the pandemic to 1,794, it added.

184 patients were discharged from various hospitals in the district, taking the total of recovered patients to 28,976.
152 new cases were reported from the city and 26 from the rural parts of the district.
Out of 184 recoveries, 159 were from the city and 25 from the rural parts.
All the three deaths reported on Saturday took place in the city, the department said
The number of micro-containment areas in the city rose to 325 with the latest revision wherein 21 such areas were removed and 16 added on the basis of detection of new cases, the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) said.
The civic body further said that the number of active cases in the city stands at 3,497, with the west zone reporting the highest number of 605 active cases.
Among seven zones, the north zone has reported the lowest number of 330 active cases.
In rural Ahmedabad, the number of total COVID-19 cases rose to 2,193 with 26 new cases added Saturday.
The recovery rate in rural parts of the district rose to 94 percent with a total of 2,071 patients getting discharged so far, including 25 on Saturday, officials said.
