Seven more succumbed to COVID- 19 in Puducherry while 608 new infections were recorded on Friday, taking the total caseload to 25,489 in the union territory.
Director of Health and Family Welfare S Mohan Kumar said in a release that 608 fresh cases were identified after examination of 5,515 samples in the last 24 hours. Of the 25,489 overall cases,5,214 were active, 19,781 patients recovered and were discharged while the fatalities were 494.
The Director said the fatality rate was 1.94 percent while recovery rate was 77.61 percent. The Health Department has so far tested 1.61 lakh samples and it was found that 1.30 lakh out of them were negative. The result of the examination of remaining samples was awaited. The Director said 470 patients were discharged from hospitals during last 24 hours.
The seven persons who died were in the age group ranging between 45 and 83 years and most of them had co-morbidities such as diabetes, hypertension and kidney related ailments.
Puducherry region accounted for 481 out of the total 608 cases followed by 95 in Karaikal, 23 in Yanam and nine in Mahe region. Five of the deceased hailed from Puducherry region while one each from Karaikal and Yanam died in the government hospitals there. Mahe region an enclave of Puducherry in Kerala did not report any death.
