Gujarat on Monday reported 926 new coronavirus positive cases, taking the total count of infections to 1,89,236, the state health department said.
With five more persons succumbing to the viral infection, including three deaths in Ahmedabad and one each in Rajkot and Surat, the cumulative toll mounted to 3,808, it said.
At 1,040, recoveries exceeded fresh cases in the day.
The count of recovered people has reached 1,72,972 in the state, which has improved the case recovery rate to 91.41 percent, the department said in a release.
With 39,383 tests being conducted in the day, the total number of samples tested so far in the state rose to 68,76,665.
Gujarat now has 12,456 active cases, the department said.
Ahmedabad continues to report the highest number of daily cases in the state and has already overtaken Surat.
At 225, Ahmedabad reported the highest number of new cases in the day followed by Surat with 141 cases.
Rajkot reported 127 new infections while Vadodara’s tally rose by 125 in the day.
Among other districts, Gandhinagar reported 51 new cases, Mehsana 45, Jamnagar 24, Kutch 20, Sabarkantha 19, Patan 18, Banaskantha, and Dahod 16 each, Junagadh 12, etc. the department said.
In the Union Territory of Daman, Diu, Dadra, and Nagar Haveli, the tally of COVID-19 cases rose to 3,266 while the count of recoveries stood at 3,245.
Significantly, the number of active cases in Diu dropped to zero after the only active case recovered during the day, officials said.
There are a total of 19 active cases in the UT, they said.

Ahmedabad reported 225 COVID- 19 cases on Monday, the highest for any district in Gujarat, taking its count to 45,568, an official said.
It also accounted for three of the five COVID-19 deaths that took place during the day in the state, he added.
The toll in Ahmedabad district is now 1,935, while the number of people discharged is 40,286, including 225 on Monday, the official said.
“Ahmedabad city accounted for 210 of the new cases and 201 of the people discharged, while these figures for the rural part of the district were 15 and 24 respectively,” he added.
With a surge in cases over the past few days, 90.8 percent of beds, or 2,003 out of 2,206, in 71 private hospitals requisitioned by the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation are occupied, officials said.
The Ahmedabad Hospitals and Nursing Homes Association said in ICUs with the ventilator, 25 beds are available and 146 occupied.
“In isolation wards, 81 beds are available and 761 occupied. In the 1,200-bed COVID facility at Ahmedabad civil hospital, 581 beds are occupied, with 134 patients admitted in a single day on Sunday, of which 91 are serious,” officials said.
The city”s west zone, with 483 active cases, overtook the north-west zone with 468, while the south-west has 437 active cases and south 427.
Surat district reports 141 new COVID-19 cases, 206 recoveries
With 141 new cases, the COVID-19 tally in Surat district rose to 38,800 on Monday, while more than 200 patients recovered from the infection, the state health department said.
One new death pushed the district”s COVID-19 toll to 1,038, it said.
The number of recovered cases exceeded new ones in the south Gujarat district, with 206 patients getting discharged from hospitals during the day, the department said in a release.
Both Surat city and the rural parts of the district reported more recovered cases than new infections, it said.
As against 124 new cases, Surat reported 155 recovered patients. The rural parts recorded 17 new cases and 51 recoveries, the release said.
A Surat Municipal Corporation release said the city’s recovery rate stood at 94.4 percent with a total of 27,581 patients getting discharged so far.
A total of 13,700 people are under quarantine in the city, it said.
Among active cases in the city, 311 are hospitalised, the civic body said.
Out of these, 146 patients are admitted to two government hospitals in Surat city, the civic body said.
The bed occupancy rate in the two government hospitals – Civil Hospital and SMIMER Hospital – is 3.5 and 8.3 percent, respectively, the SMC said.
In rural Surat, Kamrej taluka reported seven new cases, taking its COVID-19 count to 2,147, the highest among nine talukas of the district, officials said.
Kamrej has also reported the highest number of fatalities at 89, they said.
