The 72nd Republic Day was celebrated at the Office of the Principal Chief Commissioner of Income Tax in Chennai on Tuesday.
Principal CCIT Tamil Nadu & Puducherry ML Karmakar unfurled the tricolour on the Ayakar Bhavan campus at Nungambakkam High Road.
Addressing the gathering after unfurling the flag, Karmakar said that India has progressed leaps and bounds from being an underdeveloped nation at the time of independence to a developing nation swiftly with a vibrant strongest democracy now.
He has also pointed out that the country has made remarkable progress in the fields of food production, industry, telecommunication, transportation, highways, infrastructure, airports, and science & technology.
The Indian scientists, technocrats, IITians, software professionals are now enjoying high reputation and respect all over the world. India has over the last few decades, made all-round development which was possible due to the people’s involvement & participation and initiative & policies of the government.
Despite the adverse effects on the economy of the nation due to the corona pandemic, today we can enjoy the fruits of development in various fields. Karmakar stressed the importance of prompt payment of taxes which would help the government in discharging its various obligations of the country.
He further observed that Income Tax Department is strengthening the hands of the government in the collection of revenue and appealed to all the taxpayers to pay proper tax and participate in nation-building.
To mark the occasion, Karmakar also planted tree saplings on the Ayakar Bhavan campus.
