The report of the second postmortem of the 17-year-old girl who was abducted and murdered in Modasa taluka of Arvalli district carried out by a panel of five doctors has revealed that she had been sodomized.
Officials of CID (crime), the agency investigating this case, said that abrasions on her body suggested that she had been dragged off, raped and then murdered.
The postmortem report, from rectal prolapse, concluded that she was brutally sodomized. She was found hanging from a tree in her native village on January 5. In the column titled ‘injuries to external genitals, an indication of purging’, the report states, “Part of the rectum is prolapsed out from the anal canal.”
The report also points out, “One reddish colour irregular shape abrasion of 0.5cmx0.3cm found on the upper part of the left chest.” It adds that there was an abrasion mark on her left shoulder measuring 7.5cm and injuries on her left thumb.
The injury marks on her neck suggested that she was hanged forcibly and the abrasion marks all over her body indicate that she was dragged by the accused persons before they killed her.
This postmortem report also raises serious questions about the bona fides of the first postmortem, which had found no sign of rape or murder. Earlier, Modasa police filed an FIR in the case based on a complaint by her family members, who alleged that she had been gang-raped by four persons, Bimal Bharwad, Darshan Bharwad, Satish Bharwad, and Jigar Bharwad.
As the accused were not arrested, the family and activists alleged those police officers had misled the investigation. The probe was then handed over to CID (crime). Later, PI N K Rabari, who had earlier investigated the case, was transferred. A special investigation team (SIT) of CID (crime) officials will also investigate allegations of wrongdoing by the cops concerned.
Of the accused, Bimal, Darshan, and Jigar surrendered to Modasa rural police on January 12. Satish is still on the run.
