Air Marshal Surendra Kumar Ghotia Vishisht Seva Medal, Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief, South Western Air Command has been awarded the presidential award Param Vishisht Seva Medal (PVSM) on the occasion of 71st Republic Day on Saturday, a Defence release said.
PVSM is awarded in recognition of distinguished service of the most exceptional order. PVSM is the highest peacetime military presidential award in the country.
Nineteen top Army officers, including Vice Chief of Naval Staff Vice Admiral G. Ashok Kumar and Northern Army Commander Lt Gen Ranbir Singh, have been awarded the Param Vishisht Seva Medal on Saturday.
These awards were among the gallantry and other Defence decorations to the armed forces announced by President Ram Nath Kovind on the eve of 71st Republic Day.
According to the release, Air Marshal Surendra Kumar Ghotia, an alumnus of National Defence Academy was commissioned in the fighter stream of Indian Air Force in December 1981. He is a Qualified Flying Instructor. He has held various appointments which include Commanding Officer of a fighter squadron, senior staff appointments at Air HQs and Air Attache at the Embassy of India, Paris.
Before his present appointment, he was Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief of Training Command.
