Roadtrips have been the favoured mode of holiday travel for Indians whenever lockdowns ease across various Indian states. And the country’s most famous foodies and intrepid travellers, Rocky Singh and Mayur Sharma, have been taking exciting roadtrips with HistoryTV18’s social media-focused digital franchise #RoadTrippinwithRnM. Sharing fun photographs, impromptu reels, and colourful vlogs, they’ve been entertaining millions of fans and followers on their own and HistoryTV18’s social media feeds.
This unique travel vlogging series is also setting new benchmarks of success with more than 80 million views and 250 million impressions. The presenters, Rocky and Mayur, also won Gold at this year’s vIDEA – Video Media Awards and Summit 2021 for ‘Best Acting/Anchoring/Content Delivery’. Currently out on their fourth roadtrip through the state of Gujarat, they’re making their way from the large port city of Surat to Rajkot in the Saurashtra region, as they drive through landmark cities such as Ahmedabad, Somnath, Junagadh, Porbandar, Jamnagar, Gir, Diu, and Vadodara.
Currently on the highway to Bhavnagar, their last stop was Ahmedabad. Over two fun-filled days, Rocky and Mayur explored some of the several wonders the city has to offer. The duo visited Sabarmati Ashram, established by the architect of India’s freedom struggle, Mahatma Gandhi, which serves as a source of inspiration and guidance for people even today. The duo also visited another gorgeous architectural gem of the city of Ahmedabad: the Sidi Bashir Mosque, constructed in 1452. This iconic monument has always been in the limelight due to its unique construction. A gentle shaking of either minaret results in the other minaret also vibrating after a few seconds, with, surprisingly, the connecting passage between them remaining free of that effect.
With major landmarks of the city visited, photographed, and shared on their own and HistoryTV18’s social media feeds, how could our irrepressible hosts, Rocky and Mayur, stay away from what they do best?! The way to their heart is definitely through their stomachs, and it was no different in Ahmedabad. And when in Gujarat, how could they not sample the famous Gujarati thaali at Hotel Agashiye? This beautiful restaurant spread over the entire terrace of a huge mansion, with outdoor and indoor seating, is known for serving India’s best Gujarati thaali. From a finger-licking traditional meal to the mouth-watering non-vegetarian specialities of the city – Rocky and Mayur could not have forgotten other famous delicacies of the town such as the unique spread called Bara Haandi! And, of course, “when in Gujarat, do as the Gujaratis do” is as close to the motto of this series as anything could be. Masters of the impromptu, Rocky and Mayur, had a competition of the best farsaan and khaman in town. They sampled items off the menus of some of the city’s best-known outlets, such as Lijjat Khaman, Laxmi Ganthiya Rath, New Surti Khaman House, and the Das Surti Khaman House.
