The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) on Friday promoted 25 IRS officers, including two from Gujarat, to the higher pay matrix. While six officers received an immediate promotion for 2019 vacancies, 19 officers received regular promotions for 2020, and 10 officers were given the pay matrix and are to be given postings in case of retirement of regular promotees in 2020, a notification said.
Two Indian Revenue Service (IRS) officers serving in Gujarat were on Friday empanelled at the rank of Principal Chief Commissioner of Income Tax (PrCCIT) by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC).
In a notification issued on Friday, Chhavi Anupam, the chief commissioner of income tax (CCIT-2) Ahmedabad, and Amit Jain, director general of income tax (DGIT) (Investigation), were promoted to the rank of head of regions. However, their actual promotions will have to wait till senior officers retire from service.
Chhavi Anupam has served in Gujarat for long. She was posted as Commissioner (CIT) in Gujarat and then promoted as principal commissioner (PCIT). After a leave of absence, she resumed as chief commissioner (CCIT) in the state.
Amit Jain, currently serving as DGIT, head of the investigation wing, was here as director of the investigation (DI) and then promoted to the principal director (PDIT). His too is the second promotion in Gujarat as his appointment as Pr.CCIT was ratified by the cabinet.
The two officers will have to wait for top posts in tax regions to become vacant upon the retirement of incumbent senior officers before being given postings. Gujarat Region I-T chief Ajai Das Mehrotra is set to retire in November 2020.
Manoj Kumar Dubey, who served as PCIT in Gujarat before being promoted and transferred to Pune as CCIT, was promoted on the day of his retirement on Friday.
Harish Kumar, serving as DGIT (Systems) in Delhi, played an important part in the introduction of scrutiny assessment in the country. He too had earlier served in Gujarat and was approved for promotion as Pr.CCIT on Friday.
