The Southern Railway on Thursday announced that its ‘Ticketing Data Centre’ has won the SILVER Award in the prestigious SKOCH Excellence in Governance Awards under the category of ‘Governance’, an award that covers the best efforts in digital, financial and social inclusion for the year 2022. The second entry of Southern Railway to SKOCH, the Ticketing Peripherals Management System (TPMS) Application has received ‘Order of Merit’ SKOCH Certificate in the ‘Innovation’ in governance category.

Southern Railway Ticketing Data Centre caters to the Passenger Reservation System (PRS), Unreserved Ticketing System (UTS) and the Mobile Ticketing System over 3 zones, namely, Southern, South Western and South Central Railways.

Southern Railway Ticketing Data Centre was commissioned on September 1, 2021 replacing the old Data Centre which was established in 1985. The Data Centre houses the Servers of PRS, UTS, Mobile Ticketing, National Train Enquiry System and a host of other services and applications for public as well as for Railways’ internal working. The Data Centre has all the new technological equipment and facilities like Uninterrupted Power Supply, Precision Air Conditioning System and Disaster Management System like Automatic Fire Suppression system, Waterproofing system. IBMS (Integrated Building Management System) along with CCTV coverage provides online monitoring of various systems of the Data Centre. The Data Centre has been designed to fulfil the requirements for the next 2-3 decades.
The second entry of Southern Railway to the SKOCH Awards, the TPMS (Ticketing Peripherals Management System) Application has received ‘Order of Merit’ SKOCH Certificate in the innovation in governance field.
TPMS is a Mobile Web based Application for lifecycle management of thousands of PRS/UTS peripherals and data communication equipment. In Southern Railway, this Application is being used at railway stations for improving ticketing services. TPMS is an eco-friendly, go green initiative, paperless Application which saves valuable time, optimizes equipment utility and ensures smooth functioning of the ticketing peripherals.
SKOCH AWARDS
SKOCH award was instituted in the year 2003 to honour people, institutions, projects that go the extra mile to make India a better nation. SKOCH award involves a rigorous process that takes into account documentation submitted, Presentation made, a transparent voting process at multiple levels.. Under SKOCH awards, the entries are categorized as best of governance, inclusive growth, excellence in technology and innovations.
It is noteworthy that RailMadad, the grievance redressal portal of Indian Railways had won GOLD in SKOCH award under the category of Excellence in Governance. Southern Railway had won Silver in the SKOCH Awards under the category of Excellence in Response to COVID-19 in the year 2021. Southern Railway’s Rail Dandora App also entered the finals and bagged the 4th place in SKOCH awards under the category of Excellence of Governance.
