NE NEWS SERVICE

GANDHINAGAR, SEPT 4

A digital identity is useful only when the citizen can access the service behind it without barriers. Taking that principle closer to residents, the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), Regional Office Mumbai, on Wednesday inaugurated a new Aadhaar Seva Kendra (ASK) in Gandhinagar, strengthening the delivery of secure, transparent and citizen-centric Aadhaar services in Gujarat.

Located at Swagat Rain Forest-2, Shop Nos. 6, 7 and 8, Ground Floor, near Axis Bank, Gandhinagar-Koba Highway, Kudasan, the new centre will operate seven days a week, offering Aadhaar enrolment, free biometric updates for children aged 5–17, demographic corrections and on-site grievance redressal.

The facility was inaugurated by Alpesh Khodaji Thakor, MLA, Gandhinagar, in the presence of Rajesh Kumar Gupta, Director, SO Ahmedabad, UIDAI RO Mumbai, senior officials and representatives of service provider Protean eGov Technologies.

Seven days, more services, less hassle

The new ASK is designed to provide residents with a wider and more convenient window for accessing Aadhaar-related services.

Apart from enrolment and demographic updates, the centre will facilitate biometric updates, particularly for children in the 5–17 age group, while providing an avenue for citizens to address grievances directly at the centre.

The seven-day operation is expected to make Aadhaar services more accessible to residents who may find it difficult to visit government service centres during conventional working days.

Accessibility built into the service

The centre’s infrastructure has been designed with inclusion in mind, featuring wheelchair access, accessible restrooms and a dedicated ASK Manager to help residents navigate the service process.

The emphasis is significant because citizen-centric digital governance does not end with providing an online portal. For many residents, particularly children, senior citizens and persons with disabilities, physical accessibility remains an essential part of digital inclusion.

The new centre therefore combines physical assistance with digital tools to create a more seamless Aadhaar-service experience.

Book online, locate with digital tools

Residents can also reduce waiting time by pre-booking appointments through the UIDAI Appointment Portal.

Geo-tagged Aadhaar Seva Kendra locations can be accessed through the Bhuvan Aadhaar Portal, allowing citizens to identify service centres more conveniently.

The initiative also includes specialised biometric update camps in schools, aimed at ensuring that children’s Aadhaar biometrics remain updated and their digital identities are secured as they grow.

‘Faster, more convenient and transparent’

Speaking at the inauguration, MLA Alpesh Khodaji Thakor said: “This modern ASK in Gandhinagar will ensure faster, more convenient and transparent Aadhaar services for our residents. It is another milestone in realizing the vision of Digital India and expanding our national footprint.”

The new facility thus adds another local access point to the country’s digital-identity infrastructure while reinforcing the broader objective of making government services more accessible, accountable and citizen-friendly.

Security and standardised service

UIDAI said Aadhaar Seva Kendras are directly operated by the authority through its partners to maintain uniform service standards, robust data security and timely grievance redressal.

For Gandhinagar residents, the significance of the new ASK is ultimately straightforward: less distance between citizens and Aadhaar services, more convenient access and a stronger support system when updates or corrections are needed.

As India deepens its digital-governance architecture, centres such as the new Gandhinagar ASK underline an important reality—digital India needs not only digital systems, but citizen-friendly doors through which people can enter them.
