NEW DELHI, NOV 17

India on Sunday announced the second tranche of approvals under the Electronics Component Manufacturing Scheme (ECMS), clearing 17 new proposals with a combined investment of โ‚น7,172 crore, projected production of โ‚น65,111 crore, and the creation of 11,808 direct jobs.

The approvals come close on the heels of the earlier tranche involving seven projects worth โ‚น5,532 crore, reinforcing the Centreโ€™s aggressive push to deepen domestic value-chain capabilities and establish India as a competitive global electronics hub.

  • 17 new approvals to create โ‚น65,111-cr production, 11,808 jobs across 9 States
  • Move to power Indiaโ€™s march toward $500-bn electronics manufacturing by 2030โ€“31
  • Govt unveils ARKA-GKT1, Indiaโ€™s first energy-efficient Edge Silicon Chip

Expanding Manufacturing Footprint Across 9 States

The newly sanctioned units are distributed across Goa, Gujarat, Jammu & Kashmir, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, and Andhra Pradesh, signalling the governmentโ€™s focus on balanced regional development and high-skill job creation beyond traditional metro manufacturing clusters.

The second tranche covers key component categories crucial for Indiaโ€™s move from assembly-led to design-led manufacturing, including:

  • Indiaโ€™s first Optical Transceiver (SFP) units by Jabil Circuit India and Zetchem Supply Chain Services
  • High-precision oscillators for telecom, computing and industrial electronics by Rakon India
  • Laptop and smartwatch enclosures by Aequs Consumer Products
  • Camera modules by ASUX Safety Components, Uno Minda and Syrma Mobility
  • Electronic connectors by TE Connectivity
  • Multi-Layer PCBs by nine approved companies including Hi-Q Electronics, Secure Circuits, Meena Electrotech and AT&S India

These components will power critical sectors such as smartphones, IT hardware, wearables, telecom, EVs, industrial electronics, defence, medical electronics, and renewable energy.

โ€œECMS will drive Indiaโ€™s rise to a $500-bn electronics powerhouseโ€ โ€” Vaishnaw

Minister for Electronics and IT Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw said the scheme is catalysing the next phase of value-chain integration, transitioning India from a device-assembly destination to a globally competitive manufacturing base for sub-assemblies and components.

โ€œECMS is unlocking the next stage of electronics integrationโ€”from devices to componentsโ€”ensuring India reaches $500 billion in electronics manufacturing by 2030โ€“31,โ€ he stated.

Industry leaders praised the Ministryโ€™s transparent, responsive and fast-track approval mechanism, noting that MeitYโ€™s proactive engagement has increased investor confidence and accelerated project execution timelines.

India Unveils ARKA-GKT1: A Leap in Indigenous Silicon Innovation

The government also unveiled ARKA-GKT1, Indiaโ€™s first-generation energy-efficient Edge silicon chip (SoC), developed jointly by Cyient Semiconductors and Azimuth AI.

With up to 10x performance improvement and a design that integrates advanced compute cores, accelerators and secure sensing on a single platform, the chip is tailored for:

  • Smart utilities
  • Smart cities
  • Battery systems
  • Industrial IoT applications

The launch marks a significant step in building a product-driven, deep-tech semiconductor ecosystem in India.

โ€œIndia is ready to compete globallyโ€ โ€” Minister of State for Electronics & IT

The Minister of State emphasised that ECMS reflects Indiaโ€™s ambition to build trusted, resilient electronics supply chains, adding:

โ€œECMS demonstrates Indiaโ€™s readiness to compete with global manufacturing powerhouses and showcases our commitment to building secure, high-quality component ecosystems.โ€

The announcements were made at the event titled โ€œElectronics Component Manufacturing Scheme โ€” The Foundation for a Globally Competitive Electronics Value Chainโ€, organised by the India Cellular & Electronics Association (ICEA).
