AHMEDABAD, JULY 25

India’s next industrial revolution will need more than green molecules, hyperscale data centres and artificial intelligence — it will need an enormous, reliable power backbone to keep them running. Adani Energy Solutions Ltd (AESL) has moved to strengthen that backbone, winning an inter-state transmission project worth approximately ₹8,500 crore in Andhra Pradesh’s rapidly emerging Vizag region.

The project, “Transmission System for Proposed Green Hydrogen / Green Ammonia Projects in Vizag Area, Andhra Pradesh (Phase-I),” was awarded under the Government of India’s Tariff-Based Competitive Bidding (TBCB) framework, with AESL emerging as the most competitive bidder.

The win comes as Vizag positions itself at the intersection of green hydrogen, green ammonia, data centres, digital infrastructure, subsea connectivity, logistics and clean-energy-led industrial growth.

4,500-MW power corridor for Vizag’s green industrial ambitions

The transmission system has been designed to facilitate the integration and supply of power to proposed green hydrogen and green ammonia projects in the Vizag area, catering to an estimated demand of around 4,500 MW.

The infrastructure will also help meet rising electricity requirements in the Pendurthi–Vizag region, where a new wave of data-centre and digital infrastructure investments is taking shape.

The project will be housed under the Special Purpose Vehicle Vizag Power Transmission Ltd.

Its scope includes the establishment of a 4×1,500 MVA, 765/400 kV GIS substation at Pendurthi (Vizag) and a 3×1,500 MVA, 765/400 kV Khammam-II substation.

AESL’s grid footprint gets a 1,582-ckm and 10,500-MVA boost

With the project, AESL will add 1,582 circuit kilometres of transmission lines and 10,500 MVA of transformation capacity to its portfolio.

The company’s overall transmission network will consequently rise to 29,531 ckm, while its transformation capacity will reach 1,33,675 MVA.

The project also takes AESL’s transmission order book beyond ₹80,000 crore, reinforcing the company’s positioning in India’s rapidly expanding power-transmission market.

“The Vizag transmission project is an important step in building the energy backbone for India’s next generation of industrial growth. It will support the development of green hydrogen and green ammonia capacity in Andhra Pradesh, while also strengthening the grid for emerging digital infrastructure demand in the Pendurthi–Vizag region,” said Kandarp Patel, CEO, Adani Energy Solutions Ltd.

Where green molecules meet the data-centre power race

Vizag is increasingly emerging as a significant digital infrastructure destination, supported by planned large-scale AI and hyperscale data-centre developments, subsea connectivity and related logistics, clean-energy and industrial infrastructure.

As green hydrogen and green ammonia production scales up alongside data-centre demand, the availability of reliable, high-capacity transmission infrastructure is expected to become a critical determinant of grid stability, power availability and long-term industrial competitiveness.

“As India advances towards a cleaner, more technology-driven economy, AESL remains committed to developing resilient, future-ready transmission networks that enable sustainable growth at scale,” Patel added.

The project is contracted to be delivered within 30 months.
