Group Captain N Manish, Defence Public Relations Officer, Gujarat and Spokesperson, Ministry of Defence retired from service on Monday, 15 July 2024 after a distinguished career of over 26 years, leaving behind a legacy of leadership and excellence, says a Defence release.
The officer was born in Delhi and after his schooling, he was selected to join the prestigious National Defence Academy at Khadakwasla, Pune. Post successful completion of training at Air Force Academy, he was commissioned in the Fighter stream of Indian Air Force on 20 December 1997. During his service, the officer has flown various aircraft such as MIG 21 Type-75, MIG-21 Type-77, ISKARA, KIRAN, HPT-32 and variants of Canberra Fighter/Bomber. The officer is also qualified on various types of Surface-to-Air Guided Weapons like AKASH, MRSAM & the Russian origin Pechora Missile Systems.
Group Captain Manish went onto Command one of the biggest Combat Squadron in IAF from 2016 to 2018. He also served as the Joint Director at Air HQ in Delhi in the highly prestigious Intelligence Directorate. As part of these tenures, he also went on official foreign trips to Central Europe (Czech Republic) and Thailand, thereby gaining rich operational insights of other armed forces of the world.
In his last tenure before voluntary retirement, the officer held the highly important appointment of Defence PRO & Spokesperson, Ministry of Defence for the state of Gujarat and the two adjoining UTs, Daman & Diu and Dadra & Nagar Haveli.
As Defence PRO Gujarat, the officer successfully conducted the 12th edition of Defence Expo-2022 in Gandhinagar which showcased 1000+ Indian and International Defence companies and 450+ MOUs were signed. The officer was also instrumental in smooth conduct of Aero India-2023 held in Bengaluru.
The officer represented India at Japan in the 1st ever international exercise, Veer Guardian, after India assumed G-20 Presidency in December 2022 during which best practices were exchanged between both the countries. Due to the dedicated efforts of the officer, this exercise garnered wide attention and publicity not only in India but throughout the globe.
The proud parents of the officer, S Nagarajan & Janaki Nagarajan have dedicated both their sons to the service of the Nation, their younger son Commander N Nishant is a serving officer in the Indian Navy and is posted at Naval HQ in Delhi. Janaki Nagarajan also served in Air HQ in Delhi as a Defence Civilian and Nagarajan served in the Cabinet Secretariat.
The Group Captain is married to Janaki Manish for over 23 years. Janaki Manish did her post graduation in Journalism & Mass Communication & is a certified Life Coach. The couple has a daughter, Meenakshi Manish who is pursuing her 5-Year Integrated Law graduation and a son, Surya Manish who is a student of Delhi Public School, Gandhinagar.
