Veteran actor Paresh Rawal returns to Gujarati cinema 40 years after his 1982 debut film “Naseeb Ni Balihari”. “Dear Father”, based on the famous Gujarati play of the same name written by the late author Uttam Gada, is directed by Umang Vyas.

The film revolves around a three-member middle-class family – A young couple, Ajay (Chetan Dhanani) and Alka (Manasi Parekh) and Ajay’s elderly father (Paresh Rawal).

The film depicts the generation gap and differences between the young and the elderly, starts with a sweet-sour banter between father-son-daughter-in-law. Paresh Rawal is seen as a loving father to the character played by Chetan Dhanani while Manasi Parekh plays the role of daughter-in-law.

Ajay is a lawyer and Alka is a professor in a college. The son and daughter-in-law show their irritation over the old man’s habits. And, a massive twist to the tale comes when the father falls to death from the balcony. And, here comes crime branch Inspector Jadeja (Paresh Rawal in double role), who looks exactly like Ajay’s father, to investigate the case.

Commenting on his return to Gujarati cinema, Paresh Rawal says, “The play ‘Dear Father’ is very close to my heart. I had always wished that a movie should be made on it. I have worked in a lot of plays and still continue to do so and I am glad that the scripts of a few plays have been converted into films as well. I want the story of ‘Dearest Father’ to reach maximum people as I have always wished to be a part of such a meaningful and important subject, especially in my mother tongue – Gujarati. I am really happy that after 40 years I have got the opportunity to return to Gujarati cinema with ‘Dear Father’.”

Behind this happy-looking family, there are some mysteries that need to be unfolded to know what caused the death of the elderly man. The father’s death is intriguing. Is it accident, suicide or murder?

Produced by Ratan Jain and Ganesh Jain and directed by Umang Vyas, ‘Dear Father’ has been written by the late Uttam Gada. PareshRawal was last seen in ‘Hungama 2’.

Dear Father is directed by Umang Vyas and it is produced by Ratan Jain and Ganesh Jain of Venus Movies. The film will be released in theatres on March 4, 2022.
