AHMEDABAD, JULY 10
Stating that it was a ‘crime’ to dream small, former President APJ Abdul Kalam used to urge students to dream big and aim higher to achieve their goals. Young Mayank Joshi, who used to accompany his dad Dilip Joshi to Civil Hospital lab who was then working there, dreamt of having his own lab.
Twenty-five years ago in 1998, he established his lab in a 300 sqft space. Built on the foundations of Quality Service, Satisfaction and Transparency, Sun Pathology Laboratory & Research Institute (SPLRI), run by Shree Shreeji Charitable Seva Trust, has grown like a banyan tree with 8 state-of-the-art NABL accredited collection centres across the city and a 10,000 sqft swanky Corporate office with Main Labs on Science City Road.
Having realised his childhood dream, Mayank Joshi – Managing Director of SUN Pathology Labs and Research Institute (SPLRI), shared his growth story, including the challenges he faced during the Covid Pandemic, in the healthcare sector.
Speaking with this correspondent, Mayank Joshi said, “As one of the largest Independent pathology laboratories of Ahmedabad, we have achieved many milestones. We are the pioneers of Gujarat’s first-ever Vitros 5600 Integrated system & online medical reporting system. Our well defined Mission statement speaks about our commitment to our customers. SPLRI adopts superior technology and strictly adhere to quality assurance and follows the most ethical International quality standards guidelines.”
“In 2012 we have procured world’s high-end highly precise instruments & US-FDA Approved quality reagents. We have hired some of the best technical team to fulfil our commitments and achieve best quality results. I also congratulate my management team and my consultant pathologists – Dr Harsha Pandya, Dr Anand Parikh and Dr Arpita Shah for their wonderful services,” said Mayank Joshi.
Awards & accolades
Speaking about the recognition of the lab, Mayank Joshi said, “Our Services to the community has been duly recognized with many coveted awards. SPLRI has bagged “The Pride of Nation Recognition” award from former Chief Minister Vijaybhai Rupani in March 2021. Gujarat Health Minister Rushikesh Patel & Pujya Dr Gyanvatsal Swami (BAPS) conferred “The Best Pathology Laboratory of the Year” Award on us in November 2021.”
Robust redressal system
“Since customers are the kings, at SPLRI, we have designed a robust customer feedback system. All our customers can fill up the form quoting the deficiency in infrastructural facilities, cleanliness and the service quality. As the head of lab, I directly contact the customers and intimate about the action taken to redress their grievances. Over 99 percent of our patients have shown positive views and higher ratings which shows our ability to serve and satisfy more and happier patients day by day,” he added.
COVID pandemic and its challenges
When asked about the challenges faced by the lab during COVID, Mayank Joshi said, “Pathology labs and pathologists are integral to the healthcare system. About 50 percent of the staffers have quit the job as many have lost their near and dear ones to the pandemic. And even among the rest only 25 percent could be able to perform their duties with sheer dedication. We have conducted over 50,000 tests and attended over 2,000 patients per day without compromising the quality. I am indebted to my staffers for their expertise in diagnosing diseases, conducting laboratory tests using the fully automated machines which helped us to maintain the quality coupled with meeting the deadlines. We have taken care of our staffers safety by giving all vaccinations and maintaining the protocols of the state health authorities.”
Pinki Joshi, Co-Founder & Quality Manager at SPLRI, shared, “We strictly follow the adherence to Quality Assurance by continuously upgrading it. Six sigma is the highest quality benchmark in any industry and SPLRI has implemented and achieved the same in more than 194 parameters in whole the process of our laboratory. As of today the services are available from our state-of-the-art, Head Office and Laboratory at Science City which is NABL accredited and ISO 9001-2015 certified and we also have 8 NABL accredited collection centres at Sola, Satellite, Maninagar, Akhbarnagar, Bopal, Gota, Shahibaug and Vastral. We have state of the art highly precise instruments from USA and here at SPLRI, we follow continuous monitoring systems. Our State of the Art labs of Clinical Chemistry, Haematology, Clinical Pathology and Molecular Biology are well equipped to provide best diagnostic services to customers.”
Krupali Joshi, Operational In-charge, said, “All our staffers are highly qualified and undergo periodic in-house training to keep pace with the fast-paced technological advancements. We are planning to add five more collection centres within six months. We offer Privilege Corporate Membership Card, Alcohol Impact Profile, immunization packages for students going abroad, Premium Health Packages, Women’s Health Check-up Package & NRI Health Packages. As part of our Silver Jubilee, SPLRI is offering 70% discount to all till July 31, 2023 to spread the awareness campaign on preventive health care. To pay back the society, the lab has been giving 70% discount round the year to the Armed Forces, police, BPL card holders, Gurukul students and truly needy patients.”
