AHMEDABAD, APRIL 17

The Gujarat chapter of the Indian Institute of Mass Communication Alumni Association (IIMCAA) on Sunday organised ‘Koo Connections 2022 Ahmedabad’, the annual meet of the association, at a city hotel. At least 12 alumni of IIMC working at various media houses in Gujarat were present with teir family members.

In Gujarat, the first ‘Connections’ meet was held in 2017, followed by in 2018, and 2019. However, due to the pandemic, 2020 and 2021 editions were put on hold.

In the recent past, IIMCAA has taken up several initiatives for alumni and prospective students. Among them are journalism awards in various categories, scholarships for students studying at IIMC, medical expenses aid and health insurance policy for alumni and family.

“Giving back to the media industry and serving the budding students with industry exposure through academic delivery (by IIMCians) to media schools to better align the students with industry is need of the time,” said Dr Pradeep Mallik, immediate past president of Gujarat chapter of IIMCAA.

Simrat Gulati, an alumnus of 1984-85 IIMC batch and IIMCAA central committee observer, while recounting some of the notable initiatives taken up by the association, said, “We are here not only to celebrate the meet but also to take it to the next level and that can happen with maximum participation and taking the IIMAA initiatives ahead, be it active participation in awards category, medical insurance and coming out with ideas, suggestions and solutions to take the association to maximum people.”

Animesh Biswas, an alumnus of 2005-06 batch and also central committee representative,  talked about some of the initial challenges they faced while setting up the association. Securing funding was one and he vividly recounted how personal rapport helped them timed over the initial funding woes.

He also talked about the mission and vision of the alumni association which is “to reach as many alumni as possible with all the benefits of many initiatives undertaken by the association. And help widen the scope of association by providing valuable ideas, suggestions, feedback, etc. whenever it’s possible. The committee members are all there and they will open it with open arms,” concluded Animesh.
