GANDHINAGAR, DEC 28
In a significant organisational move, the Gujarat unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) announced a major overhaul of its state leadership, naming 35 new office-bearers on Saturday evening as part of efforts to strengthen party structure ahead of the 2027 state assembly elections and upcoming local body polls.
The appointments, announced by state BJP president Jagdish Vishwakarma with the approval of national BJP president JP Nadda and working president Nitin Nabin, reflect a mix of experienced leaders re-entering the fold and new faces taking up key responsibilities within the party.
Veterans Return, Leadership Bench Gets Wider Base
The new team sees the return of senior leader and former MLA Bharat Pandya, who has been appointed party vice-president, signalling strategic consolidation within the party ranks. Meanwhile, veteran office-bearers such as former treasurer Surendra Patel have made way for fresh appointees like Parindu Bhagat, a lawyer and election coordinator, now entrusted with the party’s financial oversight.
Several established figures will also continue to play prominent roles — Shrinath Shah retains the post of office secretary, and Ganpat Vasava has been appointed chief of the Scheduled Tribe Morcha — ensuring continuity alongside change in the party’s organisational architecture.
New Roles Elevate Communications and Morcha Leadership
The restructuring boosts the party’s outreach and public engagement apparatus. Anil Patel has been named the state unit’s new chief spokesperson, replacing earlier setups, while Prashant Vala, formerly state media convenor, returns as media-in-charge, a role critical in shaping the BJP’s narrative in the run-up to major electoral contests.
The organisational revamp also brings youth and issue-specific morcha leadership to the forefront. Hemang Joshi, recently noted in state political circles, has been appointed head of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) in Gujarat, while leaders have been named to helm women’s, farmers’, OBC, SC, ST and minority morchas, broadening the party’s appeal across demographic and grassroots networks.
Political Context: Organisational Reset Ahead of Poll Battleground
Political analysts see the reconstitution of the Gujarat BJP’s core team as a strategic reset aimed at bolstering the party’s organisational machinery across districts and constituencies. The move comes in the backdrop of wider statewide political churn — including a major Gujarat cabinet reshuffle earlier this year involving 26 ministers — underscoring the BJP’s focus on governance, leadership renewal and election preparedness.
With local and assembly elections on the horizon, the fresh leadership lineup is poised to deepen grass-roots connect, sharpen campaign readiness, and strengthen voter outreach efforts across the state’s political landscape.
