A fortninght ahead of World Breastfeeding Week, SIMS Hospital, Chennai on Saturday launched an exclusive Lactation Management Clinic (LMC) to streamline the lactation services for assisting the antenatal and postnatal mothers.
The Director of Department of Social Defence, Valarmathi inaugurated the Clinic as well as a conference on ‘Differential Diagnosis in Breast & Nipple Pain during Lactation’ for Doctors and health care workers as part of routine clinical updates in Indian breastfeeding practice.

Over 100 doctors and nursing professionals from across the South India participated in the conference.
SIMS Hospital organized the conference in association with the Happy Mom Health Care Services.
Inaugurating the conference and LMC, Valarmathi exhorted the women to drink more fluids during prenatal as well as antenatal periods. Every woman must show concern about their health, then only they can be able to keep their family healthy. She exhorts women to feed their children maximum period, as it would improve the immunity of the children when they grow.
She also called up the SIMS to come forward to extend their helping hand in providing breast milk from its milk bank to over 20 adoption homes run by the Social Defence department across the state.
Addressing the conference later, Dr Jayashree Jayakrishnan (Clinical Physiotherapist – Happy Mom Healthcare) said, “Breastfeeding not only saves lives, but also helps improve the health and wellbeing of women & infants. Educational sessions on breastfeeding for healthcare professionals is the need of the hour. Such knowledge transfer programs enables them with the necessary knowledge and skills to deal with the challenges of breastfeeding in different clinical scenarios. The previous conferences were well accepted by the medical fraternity and has been encouraging for us to organize this 4th edition.”

Highly reputed and specialized Doctors from institutions like Madras Medical College, Chennai Breast Centre, Chennai’s women clinic, Madras Medical Mission and a few more institutions addressed different conditions and also spoke about Indian legality to practice as lactation Consultant, he added.
