Sociopreneur Sadhguru has been spearheading the preservation and restoration of many dilapidated temples in Tamil Nadu with the help of devotees. This is Isha’s message to the devotees that temples have to be freed from the clutches of government for better upkeep.
Responding to a request to energize the Gopura Kalasam of Kumareshwarar Temple, Brahmacharis from Isha Yoga Center conducted special rituals and placed a ‘yantra’ consecrated by Sadhguru, on the Gopura Kalasam on Thursday.
Hundreds of Shiva devotees, local communities and Isha volunteers participated in the event on Thursday. Devotees also performed Kumbabishekam, Guru Pooja and chants during the ceremony.
The temple, which was in a dilapidated state owing to lack of maintenance for several years, was renovated recently by local devotees and voluntary organizations. Considered to be one of the oldest Shiva temples, the presiding deity at the Kumareshwarar temple is Lord Muruga. The temple which is in Gudiperambakkam village near Thirukkalukkunram, about 70 kilometers from Chennai, was renovated recently by local devotees and voluntary organizations, after years of neglect.
