AHMEDABAD, KOLKATA, NOV 16

Thirteen years after playing the World Cup final in 2011 and lifting the trophy, India defeated New Zealand in the semis by 70 runs on Wednesday to enter the title clash here on Sunday. With their win against New Zealand, India now reached the ODI World Cup final for the fourth time, having won the trophy in 1983 and 2011.

The Indian Cricket team arrived at SVPI airport in Ahmedabad for its stay here to play the final match. The team landed at the Ahmedabad Airport here around 7 pm and will stay at ITC Narmada in Vastrapur.

PM Narendra Modi likely to visit the Narendra Modi stadium in Ahmedabad to watch the Rohit Sharma-led Indian side in the final match on November 19.

The Indian Air Force’s Suryakiran team will perform aerobatic displays on Sunday, November 19 before the start of the Cricket world cup final match at Narendra Modi stadium in Ahmedabad. The team will practice for two days on Friday and Saturday at 1:30 pm.

Over 1.20 lakh cricket fans who are set to watch the final match in Narendra Modi stadium will enjoy the Surya Kiran aerobatics demonstration from within the stadium, while scores of other Amdavadis will witness it from the nearby areas outside the stadium.

Surya Kiran is an aerobatics demonstration team of the Indian Air Force. The Surya Kiran Aerobatic Team was formed in 1996 and are a part of the 52nd Squadron of the IAF. The team has since performed numerous demonstrations usually with nine aircraft.

Rain stops Australia vs South Africa semifinal

The second semifinal between familiar foes Australia and South Africa at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata in the ICC ODI World Cup, got off to a thrilling start before rain stopped play.

Australia, who have won five titles so far, had the Proteas, who have been in the semifinals four times, looking down the barrel, reducing them to 44/4 in 14 overs. Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood ran through the top order, picking up two wickets each. Heinrich Klaasen (10*) and David Miller (10*) were at the crease.

While the players will give it their best on the field, there might be outside factors at play. Rain, for instance, might play a major role in who finally makes it to the final against India on November 19 in Ahmedabad.

The India Meteorological Department had predicted “light rain with thunder likely” in Kolkata on both Thursday and Friday. As per the IMD, the maximum temperature will be around 29 degrees Celsius, and the humidity 69 per cent with 100 per cent cloud cover. The ground has been kept covered.
