AHMEDABAD, FEB 7

In a landmark step toward building global academic alliances to confront the climate crisis, the Anant School for Climate Action at Anant National University has signed a strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the University of Windsor, Canada, to advance collaborative research, academic exchange, and innovation-driven climate action.

The five-year partnership aims to establish a dynamic framework for joint research initiatives, student mobility, and structured graduate pathways, enabling learners and researchers from both institutions to co-create impactful solutions addressing global environmental challenges.

Merging design thinking with advanced climate science

The collaboration brings together Anant’s pioneering design-led climate education model with Windsor’s globally recognised environmental research capabilities, creating a powerful interdisciplinary platform to tackle complex sustainability challenges.

Dr. J. J. McMurtry, President and Vice-Chancellor, University of Windsor, said, “By combining Anant’s design-led approach with Windsor’s strong research ecosystem, this collaboration aims to create meaningful academic pathways that support impactful research and address pressing global climate challenges.”

The alliance reflects a growing recognition that solving climate change requires integrated thinking—blending scientific research, design innovation, and real-world application.

Enabling global exposure and real-world climate innovation

Dr. Rohan Dutta, Associate Professor and Director, Anant School for Climate Action, Anant National University, said, “At Anant, we believe climate action must be rooted in interdisciplinary thinking and strengthened through real-world research and international collaboration. Partnering with the University of Windsor will enable our students and faculty to engage with diverse climate contexts, deepen applied research and co-create solutions that are relevant at both local and global scales.”

Through faculty-led research, collaborative publications, and co-developed curricula, the partnership will foster deeper academic engagement and practical learning opportunities aligned with global sustainability priorities.

Students will also benefit from defined graduate progression pathways, enabling them to pursue advanced studies at the partner institution, alongside immersive programmes and shared research platforms.

Driving innovation in carbon capture and resilient infrastructure

The collaboration will prioritise research in critical areas including carbon capture technologies, climate-resilient infrastructure, and sustainable urban systems—fields essential to mitigating environmental impact and building climate-resilient societies.

The University of Windsor’s demonstrated progress in reducing greenhouse gas emissions and expanding its environmental research portfolio complements Anant’s mission to develop scalable, design-led climate solutions.

Senior leaders present at the MoU signing included Dr. J. J. McMurtry, Dr. Chris Busch, Associate Vice President, Global Engagement and Partnerships, and Ms Neharika, Principal Advisor, Recruitment and Partnerships, alongside senior leadership from the Anant School for Climate Action.

Strengthening global leadership in climate education

The partnership reinforces Anant National University’s expanding global academic footprint and its commitment to nurturing future-ready climate leaders equipped with interdisciplinary expertise and international exposure.

With existing collaborations spanning institutions such as the University of Pennsylvania, Sciences Po, and global organisations including UNICEF and EarthDay.org, Anant continues to position itself as a global hub for climate-focused education and research.

As climate challenges intensify worldwide, this India–Canada academic alliance signals a bold step toward empowering the next generation of innovators, researchers, and changemakers shaping a sustainable future.
