As a tribute to Padma Shri late Dr HL Trivedi, the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has decided to name a stretch of a city road in the Asarwa area after the legendary Nephrologist on his first death anniversary on October 2, a release said.
“Civil Hospital compound in Asarwa was karmabhoomi of late Dr Trivedi who dedicated his life for selfless medical service to poor people of Gujarat and naming a road on his name is an apt tribute on his first death anniversary,” Dr Vineet Mishra, Director IKDRC-ITS said. Dr Mishra, also an old-time colleague of late Dr Trivedi said that he (Dr Trivedi) left his roaring medical practice in Canada and decided to work in Ahmedabad with an idea to dedicate his life in the service of the poor.
Later, Dr Trivedi established the Institute of Kidney Diseases & Research Centre (IKDRC) and brought world-class renal care and treatment to Ahmedabad. Currently, IKDRC with a 400-bed facility is the leading hospital in the country to perform the largest number of kidney and liver transplants. “Dr Trivedi will also be remembered for reducing the occurrence of transplanted kidney rejection in patients through stem cell research technique,” added Dr Mishra.
After his return from Canada in 1977, Dr Trivedi convinced the government of Gujarat to allocate land for IKDRC in the Civil Hospital compound in the Asarwa area. “And through his single-minded determination, he was successful in building IKDRC premises through philanthropic contributions and generous donations from the public,” Dr Mishra said.
As per the resolution adopted by AMC, the road stretch which starts from Civil Hospital OPD compound gate to Holi Chakla via old MLA quarters till Lalubhai Patni Chowk in the Asarwa area has been named as ‘Late Dr HL Trivedi’ Marg. Mayor Bijalben Patel will preside over the naming ceremony with the unveiling of the plaque on Friday in Asarwa.
